Realizing it’s been more than three years since Tony snapped his finger in Avengers: Endgame still is a hard pill to swallow for many fans out there. For an actor who laid down the foundation of this gigantic cinematic universe, missing the good old days is quite natural.
Even Marvel hasn’t completely moved on from Tony’s departure, as the majority of MCU’s phase 3 consisted of building storylines off of Tony’s actions or his absence from the scene. And now the waves of that are shaping the lines on which phase 4 is building itself.

Who knows? Maybe seeing all this has finally managed to make RDJ look back on his time showing up at the sets in his signature Tony Stark goatee and handing out nicknames to his cast members.
RDJ Really Misses The MCU
Downey Jr. recently appeared in an interview with Deadline about the Netflix documentary on his filmmaker father, Robert Downey Sr. the actor reveals who in the Marvel crew he misses the most.
“What I miss most? Being in the trenches with Kevin Feige throughout; the beginning, with Jon Favreau, it’s like a beautiful dream now; the middle, with Shane Black on Iron Man 3, we’d just had Exton and shot it mostly in Wilmington NC. It was idyllic and subversive. And The End, when I realized I’d made so many close friends in the MCU cast, and the Russo Brothers helping me embrace Tony’s arc.”
The actor also talked about his Iron Man audition process, revealing that many Marvel executives weren’t considering Downey for the role at all, but it was director Jon Favreau who rooted for him and “knew he had to play the politics or he would have no leverage moving forward.”
“Another full circle story. I exchanged my previous obsession with an obsession for this role and landing it, and lest we forget, it was Favreau who was pushing for me but knew he had to play the politics or he would have no leverage moving forward.”

Nearly four years since the actor parted ways with Marvel Studios. Still, the topic of his return to the big screen gets everyone on the edge of their seats. Ten years on the job sure made Downey direct his attention to other ventures, but MCU’s other projects might require him to get back in action.
One possibility could be in the upcoming Ironheart series, where the chatter of the actor’s return as the AI version of Tony Stark hasn’t lost its trail or taking its inspiration from the comics storyline involving the character and Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne). However, Thorne had previously stated that the series is taking a bit of an off-route ride from its comic book source material.
“They definitely are similar, but definitely two independent expressions of this beautiful mind,” Thorne told Comicbook.com earlier in an interview. She added, “I think the answer to that is best left to the series next year, so that’s where you’ll have to come for the truthful answer to that question.”

“I do think in Riri’s creation of this suit, or pursuing a build like that, I think that there’s an inherent acknowledgement of what Tony Stark did by creating this suit of armour. I think for someone as ambitious as Riri Williams, it’s without a doubt, something that draws you in and begs your attention. As you can tell from the movie, that ambition will lead where it will lead and this time it’s led to her being in line with him by creating her very own suit of armour.”
Another possibility leads to Armor Wars, something that Don Cheadle never shied away from shedding light on.
“The death of Tony Stark, I’m pretty sure, will play a role in the series,” Cheadle said last year in an interview with BroBible.
Well, it’s only a matter of time before we see RDJ make it again to the MCU storylines, taking the Internet by storm yet again. Until then, we can only keep our fingers crossed!
