Dragon Ball, the legendary anime and manga franchise created by Akira Toriyama, is nearing its 40th anniversary. Even though the anime was released in 1986, the manga began its publication in the fall of 1984.
That being said, there have been numerous additions to the franchise thus far, including Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and many more.
A few hours ago, Toei Animation announced that a new series of Dragon Ball titled “Dragon Ball Daima” is in the works. With that in mind, here’s everything you need to know about the new anime.
Dragon Ball Daima Plot
Along with the announcement, Toei Animation also released a teaser for the series, providing us with an insight into what we’re heading for. Furthermore, Akira Toriyama also revealed the story through the official website of Dragon Ball. He said,
“Daima is a made-up term— in English, it would be something like ‘Evil.’ Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious new world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.”
Due to the 40th anniversary, it seems like Akira Toriyama is planning something big by bringing the young characters to the screen to add a sense of nostalgia.
Dragon Ball Daima Teaser
As stated above, Toei Animation released an official teaser for the anime, which is, although 3 minutes long, features the highlights of every major installment in the franchise.
As you can see from the teaser, Goku and his friends have all turned small and are trying to find a solution to this bizarre phenomenon. The anime also looks absolutely stunning, with the animation being a step up from Dragon Ball Super.
Dragon Ball Daima Key Visuals
Along with the visually stunning teaser, Toei Animation also revealed a couple of key visuals for the upcoming anime. You can see them both below.
While the first one simply features Goku with his Nyoibo, the second one provides an outlook on all significant character designs as well as a brief glimpse into the series’ animation quality.
Dragon Ball Daima: Studio, Cast, and Crew
Since the anime was recently announced, many details have been kept under wraps. Furthermore, the voice actors would have been the same if it were the usual Goku, Vegeta, and other characters.
However, in the anime, every character will be turned small, so their voices should be provided by young actors. Currently, there is not much known about the cast of the series.
That being said, Toei Animation will be the animation studio for Dragon Ball Daima. It is the same studio behind the previous Dragon Ball works, One Piece and Sailor Moon.
Moreover, the creator, Akira Toriyama, will personally oversee the story and character designs, so fans can be assured the project will easily surpass many of his prior works.
Dragon Ball Daima Release Date and Where to Watch
As officially revealed at the New York Comic Con this week, Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Daima will be released in the Fall of 2024, but a release date has not been set yet.
However, the producers are eyeing the release date to coincide with its 40th anniversary, and given that the manga started publishing on November 20, 1984, the new anime series would be released around the same time.
Toei Animation did not reveal where the series will be streamed following its release, but seeing as how all the previous installments are available on Crunchyroll, it should be aired on the same platform.
