Top 15 Bald Marvel Characters With Reasons For Balding

Though many people find baldness an issue for personality, there are lots of superheroes who can inspire them as well. Shiny bald superheroes became popular when One Punch Man anime was introduced. Comics also have many smooth-scalped fictional characters, but we are only going to focus on Marvel Comics.

Our listicle consists of Marvel’s famous and notorious hairless characters from the comics.

#15 Red Skull

#15 Red Skull - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: Captain America Comics #7 (October 1941)
Reason For Balding: Wearing the Red Skull Mask

We all know the MCU version of the origin story of Red Skull, but the comic book version is darker in comparison. Johann Schmidt had a troubled childhood and was more vicious than Hitler. The Fuhrers took pride in creating a monster like Red Skull but feared his dark version of himself.

Red Skull is one of the oldest Nazi-supporting supervillains who has returned numerous times in the comics. He mostly appeared as the oldest archenemy of Captain America but posed threats to Avengers as well. Johann Schmidt received the mask of Red Skull from Hitler after completing his training under him. The mask represents Hitler’s image of fear and wrath toward his enemies.

We have seen Red Skull for the last time in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: End Game, played by Ross Marquand.

#14 Vulture

#14 Vulture - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #2 (May 1963)
Reason For Balding: Aging

Adrian Toomes was a New Yorker and a genius electrical engineer. Everything was right until he found out that he had been betrayed by his business partner, Gregory Bestman. Toomes designed a suit with two wings that would help him to fly. He decided to become a criminal and took the name of Vulture.

The Vulture’s comic book appearance with a bald head has similarities to the vulture bird. There are different versions of Vulture, but the bald version has appeared mostly. As a member of Sinister Six, his hairless head gives an evil look and suits his supervillain personality.

Vulture is a common villain to Spiderman and has appeared in all the Wall-Clinger superhero’s animated series. Now, Michael Keaton is playing the role of this cunning, flying supervillain in the MCU.

#13 Kingpin

#13 Kingpin - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #50 (July 1967)
Reason For Balding: Fashion Statement

13th on our list is Marvel’s one of the top 10 villains, Kingpin, and he has both high intelligence with brute strength. We, all comic book readers, have seen Kingpin in his bald head with a fat body appearance. He is feared by Marvel superheroes, even though he does not possess any superpowers.

In the case of criminal activities, the Kingpin is unrivaled as Wilson Grant Fisk is the overlord of all crimes. He controls all the gangs in New York. His bald look is exclusive to him, as we cannot imagine Kingpin without this look.

Wilson Grant Fisk, aka Kingpin, has appeared in many animated series for Marvel. But fans were surprised when MCU revived Vincent Philip D’Onofrio’s Netflix version of Kingpin in their Hawkeye Disney Plus series.

#12 Skurge the Executioner

#12 Skurge the Executioner - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: Journey into Mystery #103 (April 1964)
Reason For Balding: By Choice

12th on our list is an Asgardian, Skurge, the executioner, a tool of Amora the Enchantress. Though Skurge was madly in love with Enchantress, she used him as a pawn to fight against Thor.

Skurge has superhuman strength like the other Asgardians and wields a magic-enchanted double-bladed battle ax. Despite being a villain, he was also a great warrior. After some time, he could understand that he was being used and joined the heroes of Asgard. Skurge’s bald look gives the perfect vibe of his ruthlessness.

The MCU did not experiment with Skurge’s look but disappointed the fans by killing him off early. Karl Urban played the role of the Executioner in Thor: Ragnarok movie.

#11 Nebula

#11 Nebula - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The Avengers #257 (July 1985)
Reason For Balding: For Cybernetic Enhancements

The classic version of Nebula had long blue locks, and she featured heavily in The Infinity Gauntlet storyline. Though she was introduced as a villainous space pirate, Marvel Cinematic Universe approached her as an anti-hero.

In recent times, Marvel comics are also treating her as an anti-hero. Nebula sacrificed her blue looks for smooth cybernetic enhancements, making her stronger. All were Thanos’ doings. The MCU addressed this in the Infinity War and Endgame movies.

Nebula has made too many appearances in Marvel’s animated series, but Karen Gillan’s version of the space pirate is one of the prominent characters in the MCU.

#10 Nick Fury Jr.

#10 Nick Fury Jr. - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: Battle Scars #1 (November 2011)
Reason For Balding: By Choice

Nick Fury Jr. is the son of the legendary Nick Fury in Marvel Comics. His rise happened due to the massive popularity of Samuel L’ Jackson’s MCU version of the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Original Nick Fury’s name was Nicholas Joseph Fury, but many Marvel fans are unfamiliar with his appearance. Because the MCU introduced a different-looking Nick Fury with a different complexion. Samuel L’ Jackson’s bald look has put a permanent image of the character who formed the Avengers team.

The MCU introduced Samuel L’ Jackson’s version of this fictional character in 2010’s movie Ironman 2. Marvel Comics followed the trend by introducing a similar-looking Marcus Johnson in 2011 as the second son of Nicholas Joseph Fury.

Original Nick Fury appeared many times in the animated and live-action TV series, but Pulp Fiction actor is playing the role of Nick Fury instead of Nick Fury Jr.

#9 Moondragon

#9 Moondragon - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: Iron Man #54 (January 1973)
Reason For Balding: By Choice

Before mentioning her long-lost father, we must mention Marvel’s one of the first bald female superheroes, Moondragon. Moondragon is the daughter of Drax and was trained by the alien monks on Titan.

According to The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, the Shao-Lom Monks trained Moondragon so well that she gained control over her body, which included her hair follicles. Though she is a human, her trained combat skill is on the levels of the Eternals.

Her appearance is very limited in Marvel’s animated series, and she has not appeared in the MCU yet.

#8 Drax the Destroyer

#8 Drax the Destroyer - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The Invincible Iron Man #55 (February 1973)
Reason For Balding: By Choice

Drax the Destroyer on our list is hard to miss as he is one of the few baldy superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Arthur Douglas was revived by Kronos as an android named Drax to kill Thanos. With his artificial body, he has immense strength, and his classic version was very powerful. He served his purpose during the events of the Annihilation storyline.

The MCU gave Drax a different origin story than the comics. Instead of an android, he is an alien who seeks revenge for his family. His bald look gives Dave Bautista’s version of Drax a ruthless appearance, and we will see him for the last time in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

#7 Luke Cage

#7 Luke Cage - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 (June 1972)
Reason For Balding: Fashion Statement

Though Carl Lucas, aka Luke Cage, started his comic book journey as a curly-haired superhero, his recent appearance has changed to a shiny bald superhero.

From his early poor childhood days, he got involved in crime and was arrested in the juvenile justice system after some time. He realized all his mistakes and left his criminal career. After his release from jail, he joined the NYPD as a police officer and was doing great there. But after some time, he was wrongfully convicted of a drug case and ended up in jail. Lucas received his superpowers when the experiment on him went wrong. Thus, he escaped prison and took on the superhero name of Luke Cage.

His bald head suits his personality and his superpower of impenetrable skin. Luke Cage appeared in many animated series, but his live-action version was played by Mike Colter in the Netflix series. Right now, the fate of the series is unknown.

#6 Vision

#6 Vision - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The Avengers #57 (August 1968)
Reason For Balding: Created/Fabricated bald

Vision also falls under the bald superhero category, but he is not a human or a living being. He is a “synthezoid” created by Ultron with Wonder Man’s brain pattern. Though Ultron designed him to destroy Avengers, he rebelled against his creator and became a member of the Avengers team.

Because Vision is not a human, he does not have any hair on his head and just has shiny green-colored baldness. Though the MCU introduced a human-looking vision in Avengers Infinity War, he did not survive for long.

Vision has appeared in many of Marvel’s animated movies and TV series, and Paul Bettany plays the live-action MCU version of him.

#5 Professor X

#5 Professor X - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The X-Men #1 (September 1963)
Reason For Balding: For his psychic abilities

6th on our list is the founder of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, aka Professor X. We all have a clear idea of how Professor looks. He is a bald man and moves with the help of his wheelchair.

Charles had his hair and was a great athlete, but he lost both because of his psychic superpowers. His contribution to Mutant society is beyond describable, and even Magneto respects that.

Professor X has appeared in almost all the X-Men series, and his live-action version was played by Sir Patrick Stewart as the older version, and James McAvoy played the 80s version of the genius mutant.

#4 Apocalypse

#4 Apocalypse - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: X-Factor #5 (May 1986)
Reason For Balding: Mutation or heavy usage of celestial armor

Apocalypse is one of the deadliest supervillains on earth and one of the first Mutants. He was introduced as one of the tyrant rulers of ancient Egypt and was known as En Sabah Nur.

Though Apocalypse was not bald from the very beginning as he appeared in the Rise of Apocalypse, an origin story of the biggest arch nemesis of the X-Men. How did Apocalypse become bald is still unknown, just like his armor. But his armor was an advanced tech from Celestilas, which granted him incredible durability. There is a possibility that he lost his hair because of using it.

Apocalypse’s baldness suits his evil and ruthless personality. This Marvel supervillain has already appeared in many X-Men animated series and in Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse, where Oscar Issac played the role.

#3 Deadpool

#3 Deadpool - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: New Mutants #98 (February 1991)
Reason For Balding: Mutation

Wade Wilson did not have bald genes, but his health condition made him like this. Wade had brain cancer and almost gave up his life. But he took one last chance by volunteering himself in the Weapon-X program. The experiment had a successful result, and his newly gained healing ability made his normal cells, as well as his cancer-affected cells, unable to die. Though he became immortal, his face did not revert to his original one.

Deadpool’s unmasked face is not shown often, but his face and bald head gave depth to his character aside from his dark and funny jokes. We have seen Deadpool in many X-Men animated series, but Ryan Reynolds took the character to a different level. Even after Disney acquired Fox Studios, Kevin Feige did not dare to replace Ryan Reynolds as the brutal and funny antihero, Deadpool.

#2 Silver Surfer

#2 Silver Surfer - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The Fantastic Four #48 (March 1966)
Reason For Balding: Genetically present in their species

Silver Surfer is the strongest bald superhero on our list and has the most shining and smooth hairless head than anyone in the Marvel Universe.

Norrin Radd was born bald, and his hair was never shown in the comics.

Norrin sacrificed himself when he tried to save his planet, Zenn-La, from Galactus. The Devourer of the Planets granted him the Power Cosmic, and he turned into Silver Surfer. As Silver Surfer, his skin became silver-colored, and his hairless head became the most shining.

We cannot imagine Silver Sufer with hair, and his classic look has remained the same with his bald head. Silver Surfer has appeared in many animated series with his solo series. We saw his live-action for the last time in the 2007 movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

#1 Thanos

#1 Thanos - Bald Marvel Characters

First Appearance: The Invincible Iron Man #55 (February 1973)
Reason For Balding: Because of having both Eternal and Deviant genes

Mad Titan, Thanos has both the Eternal and Deviant genes. That’s why he looks different than other Titanians. In the origin story of Thanos, we learned about the racism he faced, but he was also very knowledgeable.

Thanos was primarily seen in the armored version with a helmet on his head. But Marvel Studios brought a baldy version of the Mad Titan in Avengers Infinity War. His deviant gene gave him a purple complexion, making his hairless head more unique.

Thanos became the main villain in the Infinity War Saga, and Josh Brolin played the role mostly. Besides this, he has also appeared in many of Marvel’s animated series.

Sayantan Ghosh is more of an anime fan than a comic book one, but his love for cartoons was generated from Scooby Doo and Batman the Animated at an early age. The madness came when he was intrigued by anime when they were first aired on Cartoon Network around early 2000. He also has experience working with more than five different pop culture websites on various content to date. But as a Literature and Cultural Studies student, he prefers to judge any series from a black-and-white perspective. He rather prefers to see things through a gray lens. Sayantan is more interested in analyzing a series's characters and background than being an entertainment consumer. He loves to pinpoint the writer's hidden message. You can often expect an almost unbiased point of view from him. If you have any hidden gem kind of anime or manga on your mind to recommend, you can message him on his social media. Though Sayantan is not that active online, he is always open to criticism and feedback.
