The Tutor Ending Explained
At the movie’s end, Ethan is seen getting into a fight with Gevin and Jackson, with their intentions to torture or perhaps kill him. However, the film makes a 180-degree turn when it is realized that the true psycho in the movie is not Jackson but Ethan.
It is revealed in the last scene that Jackson is full of rage and wants to ruin Ethan’s life because he apparently had killed her mother, justifying Jackson’s enmity for Ethan all along. Upon being asked by Jackson, being the cunning man that he is, Ethan lies, saying he had nothing to do with Jackson’s mother, Rachel’s death, but confesses that he, indeed, spent the night of her death with her.
Ethan continues to say that although he agreed to spend the night with Rachel, she refused to send him away because she claimed she was madly in love with him and couldn’t let go of him. Ethan justifies her death calling it nothing more than suicide.
Little does he know that Jackson is already aware of the truth, as he has Rachel’s journal, where she reveals Ethan’s real personality. According to Rachel, Ethan was a psychotic lover who was obsessed with her.
Rachel confesses to getting into an affair with him but also states that whatever they shared was nothing more than a fling, and she had no feelings for Ethan whatsoever.
On the contrary, Ethan was obsessed with her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with Rachel. Upon being rejected by her, a vengeful Ethan ends up killing Rachel. While this is happening, Annie reaches the scene and overhears Jackson and Ethan’s entire conversation and is in utter shock.
Ethan tries to manipulate her, but when she doesn’t look entirely convinced, he is almost willing to kill her, as she is now aware of him murdering Rachel. Only when Ethan moves closer to Annie to kill her is she rescued by Jackson, who shoots Ethan in the back, making him fall into the sea.
But does it mean Ethan is dead?
What Happened To Ethan?
Ethan is not dead even after being shot and drowned in the sea. But this is something both Jackson and Annie are unaware of. To them, Ethan is dead, just like the rest of the world thinks.
The conclusion of “The Tutor” strongly suggests that Ethan is still alive and has relocated to an affluent area where he works as a tutor for children. Jackson and Annie misunderstand Ethan’s death, but to their surprise, Ethan is still alive and somehow manages to relocate to a different place, where he continues teaching students as before.
Viewers can find out from the ending that Ethan may have suffered from a mental disorder or was skilled at deceiving others into believing he was a stable person.
However, he expertly conceals his true intentions to avoid scrutiny and rejection by Annie, as in the climax scene, he is even seen requesting her to trust her with what he says. It is plausible that Ethan has committed other heinous acts in the past, yet he always managed to evade capture.
Will Ethan Kill Annie And Jackson?
The movie’s end revealed Ethan as a psycho who disguised himself all these years as an average person and a loving boyfriend to Annie. However, he is an obsessed psychopath responsible for the killing of Rachel. His gruesome personality also suggests that Rachel, perhaps, wasn’t his only victim and that several others must have been prey to his evil disposition.
While Annie and Jackson might feel relieved thinking Ethan is dead, he has managed to flee to a different place where he continues to disguise himself like an average tutor, just like he did before.
This only proves to show that Annie and Jackson, the only ones to have seen Ethan’s dark side, will be hunted down by him sooner or later. This means that Annie and Jackson’s lives are, for sure, at stake.
Currently, The Tutor is available to stream on Direct TV.
