Where do you run away FROM? How can you escape your own home?
FROM, a 2022 series explores the twisted world of a nightmarish and mysterious town where people are compelled to stay against their wishes.
The series is an amalgamation of thrillers like Lost, Stanger Things, and Dark (German TV series). But that’s just scratching the surface. From explores the internal struggles of individuals while tackling paranormal occurrences.
The first season received a lower engagement rate than expected, but the series still managed to capture the curiosity of critics. The story captivates throughout, but it needed marination to turn into a fully-seasoned show.
Nevertheless, the show was acknowledged with two nominations for Saturn Awards, including “Best Horror Television Series” in 2022. The show was immediately renewed for the second season.
From: What Happened On Season 2?
The season 2 finale has amped up ‘Fromville’s’ bizarre experiences. The show’s end feels like a whiplash, where you still can’t fathom the repercussions.
A quick breakdown of the last few minutes of the season 2 finale:
The quiet boy finally speaks for the first time and apologizes to Tabitha. But in an eerie turn of events, he pushes her from the top of the lighthouse, and she shatters the glass panel beneath her.
She wakes with several injuries, all clamped up in a hospital bed with a bunch of medical equipment attached. She is flabbergasted when the attendant tells her that she has been in a comatose-like state for three days and was rescued by the trail hikers.
Epiphany strikes her that she has escaped the “Fromville” curse, but the catharsis ends within just a few seconds when she realizes her family couldn’t make it.
Tabitha is as dumbstruck as we are when she opens the window and sees the bay area outside. When she sees her reflection in the window, it’s not her, but a blonde girl is reflected back.
She desperately contemplates her next move while we are left with an unsettling question— Has Tabitha really escaped the hellhole, or is she trapped in the next convoluted simulation? This despair at the end of the tunnel is the reverse of “Shawshank Redemption.”
Such subverting trope definitely requires a continuation, thus hoping for a next season.
Will There Be a Season 3 of From?
There has been no confirmation on season 3 yet.
But here are a few exhibits that can keep our hopes ignited–
- The show is filmed in Nova Scotia. The official website of IATSE Local 849 has released a list of shows under the current production banner that would be filming at the site. This list does include FROM under the “Greenlit” tag.
- The Canadian news website, The Coast, has revealed in their latest list that From season 3 would start its production “in the coming weeks.”
This is enough to infer that we can expect a new season. Also, the previous season left us with a pretty shocking twist. It would be an unsatisfactory end to the series if the next season is canceled.
From: Season 3 Release Date?
The MGM production has not disclosed any details about season 3, but according to a recent interview with TellTaleTv, the director and executive producer, Jack Bender, explains why there will be season 3 but there will be a possible delay–
“John Griffin, who created the show and writes most of the episodes, and Jeff Pinkner, the showrunner who comes up with stories, and I go way back to Alias together. They were in the midst of carving out season three, and the first few scripts were written when the strike happened, but we didn’t have enough ready to go that we, in the studio, felt we could start and not have to stop.”
“So, we are waiting to resume, and we are looking forward to it. I am personally not because when we get back to Halifax, it may be cold as hell. It gets very cold up there. I do better in moderate weather. But you know, telling the story and working with Harold and this exceptional cast and our crew up there is enjoyable. So, I’m anxious to get on [season] three.”
Due to the writers’ strike, several shows are expected to get delayed. While From could have released in early 2024, the strike might postpone it to the later quarter of the year.
