Once upon a time, Facebook was the go-to social media platform. But over time, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube took away its user base.
However, that doesn’t mean that the site is dead. It’s just that its demographic has shifted to include an older user base. Also, some changes have been made to the site over time, confusing people about some features.
One of the crucial things Facebook users are confused about is their pictures suddenly getting deleted on their own. Some users post family photos or images from special occasions to share them with their friends on social media.
Others promote their business through graphics. As such, pictures suddenly getting deleted are troublesome. But is this happening?
Facebook might delete your photos if they violate the terms of service. In this case, you will get an email stating the same. Other reasons your photos might disappear include server maintenance, a bug, uploading pics in a non-supported format, or uploading pics higher than 15 MB. However, you can get your images back with the help of third-party photo-recovering apps or by downloading your profile information from Facebook.
Why Is Facebook Deleting Your Photos?
There are various reasons why your photos might suddenly get deleted or removed from Facebook, even if you aren’t actively deleting them. One of the reasons the photos might get deleted can be due to a bug. Another can be because the pic violates the terms and conditions of Facebook.
However, there’s no need to panic. Follow the steps to get your photos back:
- Log out of your profile and the site for a few hours. Then check back to see if the images have reappeared or not. Sometimes pictures can disappear from Facebook due to server issues or during server maintenance. If this is the case, your photos will be restored soon. If not, report the problem to Facebook.
- Go to the email account your Facebook account is linked with, and check if you have received an email from Facebook for violating their terms of service. In such a situation, the site would have removed the graphics if enough users reported it for being offensive. You can change the image and post anew so it doesn’t get taken down again.
- Note that Facebook has a 15 MB limit on graphics. This means that images greater than this size aren’t accepted. If you could upload a higher-sized picture, the site might have removed it later.
- Facebook majorly supports PNG, JPEG, GIF, TIF, and BMP file formats. If your images are in any other format, they might disappear after posting.
- Check if you changed the photos’ viewing setting to private or customized it to ensure that no one else could see it.
- If your Facebook group cover photo has disappeared, it could be because of copyright infringement. In that case, you will get an email from the site and have to post another pic that’s self-designed or without copyright.
If your situation doesn’t fit the above-stated conditions, send a report to Facebook. Note that Facebook doesn’t keep a copy of the images it has removed or those that accidentally disappeared. They get permanently deleted from the servers. However, there are still ways to get the graphics or images back. Here’s how to do it:
- You need to install an image recovering or restoring app that works with your Facebook app or website to regain your lost pictures.
- Another option is to download your Facebook account’s information. For this, go to your Facebook profile and then head to settings. You will find that there’s an option to download your account information. You might find your deleted images there.
However, it’s always advised to keep a backup of pics posted on Facebook. Either create a cloud backup or use a USB to store your pics since keeping images stored in your phone’s or PC’s internal memory can make the device unnecessarily cluttered, and it might lag.
So were you able to recover your deleted Facebook photos?
How did you do it? Did you use a third-party app? Or did you download your profile information? Why were the pics deleted in the first place?
