Thanks to Taylor Swift, one pair of NFL brothers- Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce are under the spotlight. Swifties want to know everything about them and their games.
However, they are not the only brothers in the NFL. Many think that Brock Purdy and Chubba are siblings as well.
But no one has been able to tell for sure because their names are entirely different. So, are they related?
Preston ‘Chubba’ Purdy is Brock Purdy’s younger brother. Chubba is a sophomore quarterback at Nebraska, and Brock is a quarterback for the 49ers. Both start for their teams. Their father, Shawn Purdy, was a minor league baseball player, and their only sister, Whittney, played softball.
Does Brock Purdy Have a Brother?
Born on December 27, 1999, the famous Brock Purdy has been a success story in the NFL in a way few could have predicted. Selected with the 2022 final pick by the 49ers, he earned the Mr. Irrelevant title. So, he entered his career without much expectation.
But he proved everyone wrong and exploded after that.
Last year, the quarterback helped put the San Francisco 49ers into an NFC championship, and now he is one of the starters for almost every match. In 2022, he was awarded the NFC Rookie of the Month twice for December and January.
His success story made it to the papers and made people wonder if another player with the same surname, Chubba Purdy, was related to him.
The answer is yes. Chubba, whose real name is Preston Purdy, is Brock Purdy’s younger brother. Born on July 30, 2001, Chubba is a sophomore quarterback at Nebraska. However, he didn’t have an easy start to his career like his brother.
Chubba Purdy attended Perry HS in Gilbert, Arizona, where he played American football throughout his school career. After that, he went to play for Florida State while his elder brother forged his path in Iowa.
Initially, Chubba was going to play for the University of Louisville. But that didn’t pan out, and he began his college career at Florida State. Interestingly, he made his college debut against Louisville.
He was transferred on January 17, 2022, and faced the Minnesota Golden Gophers for his first start with the Nebraskan team.
He has recently found himself a regular starting spot with the team only after injuries forced the previous starters to sit out. Soon, he could find himself in an NFL team and have a trajectory that mirrors his elder sibling.
But what about that name- who called him Chubba first?
He got his nickname from his father because he was 38 pounds as a 1-year-old. Since then, the name stuck to him. It should be noted that these two brothers aren’t the only athletes in their family.
Their father, Shawn Purdy, and their sister, Whittney, had careers in other sports. Shawn was a minor-league baseball pitcher who had played for Indian River State College, the University of Miami, and Valencia Community College.
He was also drafted four times by various MLB teams. The only daughter among the three siblings, Whittney became a softball player and played for Southeastern University and Spartanburg Methodist College.
As a result of being raised in a sporting family, Chubba gravitated towards sports from a young age and finally chose football like his elder brother.
Did you also think that Chubba and Brock Purdy weren’t related? Or had you guessed they looked similar enough to be brothers or at least pass as a duo?
