By the end of episode 4 of season 2, fans got the idea behind Loki’s pruning incident. It was revealed that he prunes himself at the exact moment that Mobius activates a device called a Temporal Aura Extractor. According to O.B.’s theory, these events happen at the same time, which will permit Loki to be pulled back into the present. It will further stop his slipping through time. Meaning Loki pruned himself to ensure his existence in the present time.

This brings us to the Loki series presented by Disney+. Season 2 premiered on October 5, 2023. Just when it seems that Loki might finally escape his time in prison, the unexpected happens. In the nick of time, as Sylvie and Loki share a moment, he is pruned from existence.
Why would the God of Mischief willingly erase himself from the timeline? In episode 1, the audience sees Loki slipping through time right after Sylvie pushes him through a door. Meanwhile, Mobis met Ouroboros (TVA’s main engineer) and reckoned that Loki got stuck between two timelines.
Furthermore, Ouroboros disclosed that Loki has to kill himself in order to stabilize his present self. Soon, by the end of episode 1, we witness Loki getting pruned by a mysterious persona.
Fast forward to episode 4, the episode reveals the identity of a mysterious man, Loki himself. Present Loki, time travels to the past, in episode 1, where the past Loki is trying to escape. The future Loki deduces the situation and prunes himself to close the loop from the beginning.
The pieces of the puzzle were falling into the right place. Soon, the sequence began to reveal the clever intricacies of time travel and self-preservation that “Loki” had woven into its narrative. Pruning was necessary to ensure his stability of the timeline and stop his slipping through time.
With only two episodes left in Season 2, fans are wondering what else is to be revealed in the rollercoaster season. If one pruning incident can make us wait until 4, no one knows what’s in the future. To find that, we have to glue our eyes on Disney+ every Thursday at 9 pm ET.
