Despite becoming a tradition of the old days, Facebook is still used by many people worldwide, even though Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, and many other platforms have introduced more tempting features.

While we would like to call it loyalty or attachment to their first social media experience, it isn’t without flaws, and recently, many users began experiencing an issue where the back button just didn’t work.

So, did Facebook remove the back button? No. Users who are not able to get back to the previous tab using the back button are reportedly facing some sort of glitch or bug, which is happening to only Android mobiles. A simple workaround is to hold the back button long enough (four seconds) or wait until an update fixes the issue.

Did Facebook Remove the Back Button? Why Are Users Facing the Issue?

Until November 5, 2023, Android Facebook users had a great time posting, liking pictures, and commenting on their favorite posts, but they soon encountered an issue where they couldn’t get back to the previous tab using the back button.

It was a weird situation as they had to click the back button from the top left corner of the menu to get back to the previous page or post. Eventually, people began posting on Reddit, X, and other social media platforms, hoping for a solution to this annoying problem.

Apparently, the issue is only happening within Android devices, as not a single iOS user has reported the problem, and we’ve verified that to make sure it is a fact.

Although the entire Facebook app is working fine, facing such a simple yet annoying problem, users are seeking answers to fix the issue.

Facebook did not remove the back button because that would make the user experience worse, so it is most likely a bug that’s been going around since the v439 update that was rolled out at the beginning of this month.

We noticed the (lowe right) back button when in Facebook no longer works…. anyone else have this issue? We have restarted our phones, Uninstaller the app & reinstalled it & cleared the cache. The back button still isn't working.

People also commented on the Google Play Store, detailing the bug and asking the developers to fix it. One user named David Hernandez posted:

“Apparently, the updates broke the ability to use the system back button. Super annoying. You’re forced to use the app’s back button at the top of the screen. This is not convenient because it forces you to move around to areas that aren’t ergonomically efficient. It’s not a feature. It’s a bug. Please fix it.”

How To Fix the Facebook Back Button Issue?

@facebook Can you please fix this back button nonsense for Android? I'm not on an iPhone, I don't need your stupid top back arrow when I have my own. Now, I have two and only the annoying top one works. It's against the way every thing else works on Android. pic.twitter.com/eslfRdxjWo

We wouldn’t go as far as to call it a fix because there isn’t a perfect solution for the issue yet, but experts and techies have found a workaround to use the back button on Facebook.

If tapping the back button doesn’t work, people have claimed that holding it for a few seconds, at best four seconds, would do the trick, and you will be able to get back to the previous menu or tab without issues.

If it still doesn’t work, try holding it back again, and it should work, as several people have faced a similar situation and posted that it functioned after trying the same method a couple of times.

For the time being, we can only wait until Facebook fixes the issue voluntarily or rolls out another update addressing it.

So, have you been facing the same issue on Android? Do you think Facebook will fix it soon enough?
