Why Is Facebook Sending Friend Requests Automatically (Bug Explained)

Imagine stalking your ex on Facebook when the app suddenly sends an unwarranted friend request to them. A nightmare come true, isn’t it? Unfortunately, after a recent Meta pickle, some people have already become victims of this situation.

You might be reading this article after already suffering from a traumatizing incident. So, how are you ever going to explain yourself now? Even worse, it will haunt you as the most embarrassing moment for decades.

After many such friend requests got sent without consent, Meta finally reached out in an attempt to open up about the bug and its current status.

Does Facebook Automatically Send Friend Requests?

No, Meta (Facebook) does not automatically send friend requests. However, a few hours ago, a bug caused an automatic friend request to be sent to profiles that users viewed. If you are still facing the same problem, I recommend reopening the app after closing it.

So facebook now automatically sends friend request when you see someone’s profile…. We did the test with random people and if you check your friend request sent they appear there… #Facebook pic.twitter.com/vN7r8T1uw8

Has Meta Fixed the Automatic Friend Request Bug Yet?

Yes, Meta has already fixed the bug that led to sending an automatic friend request. The spokesperson for the app stated, “We’ve stopped this from happening, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The latest bug has led to a privacy and consent issue, as people could no longer view profiles without having their presence known. While some found the bug hilarious, others are not so happy with it.

You know Facebook's people you may know tab?? Well, I occasionally click on people that pop up just out of curiosity and DUE TO A BUG, FACEBOOK AUTOMATICALLY FRIEND REQUESTED EVERYONE I CLICKED ON. I'm mortified. Don't know how I can recover from this. Lol

How many lovely evenings have you spent going through the Facebook profiles of that one hot classmate or all the people you knew from a community? Facebook stalking is commonplace nowadays, but those who tried to do it on this particular day found they had chosen the wrong time.

Not only did people get bombarded with friend requests and suddenly come to know who is interested in their profiles, but users who wanted to block a profile also ended up sending a request. This has led to many complaining about the app and some even uninstalling it.

Meta didn’t reveal what caused the bug, but the few moments of delay in action led to probably thousands of people being mortified. If it had happened to me, I would not have been able to recover from it anytime soon.

Did you use Facebook in the meantime? Did you face the same problem? Tell us about your story and how you probably got embarrassed due to Meta.
