While mass shootings in the United States remain a mystery as to why they happen frequently, gangster shootings are not an uncommon sight as well, especially around the areas of Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
In a recent incident, a previously convicted drug trafficker was killed in a shooting, and while many details are still under wraps, we have put together a few. So, who is El Mago, and how was he killed in Thursday’s shooting?
El Mago, also known as Eduardo Escobedo, 39, is a convicted drug trafficker linked to a son of Joaquin Guzman (El Chapo) and was shot dead in a shooting this Thursday morning in Willowbrook, Los Angeles. While the culprit has not been caught yet, The LA police have reported that there are two more victims besides El Mago.
Who Is El Mago?
Originally known as Eduardo Escodebo, El Mago is an experienced and previously convicted drug trafficker who is linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, who also worked for the son of El Chapo.
According to the reports, El Mago was previously sentenced to four years and nine months in a federal prison for distributing over 10,000 kilograms of marijuana and carrying out other drug laundering programs.
He was believed to hail from the Mexican state of Durango but later moved to California to become a significant player in the Los Angeles’ drug cartels.
El Mago is also alleged to have ordered the death of his rival drug trafficker in 2008, but his brother was convicted of the crime and is serving a life sentence.
Although he was a notorious drug dealer prior to his arrest in 2011, he was running restaurants around the areas of Willowbrook until he met his untimely death in this shooting.
How and Why Was El Mago Killed in the Willowbrook Shooting?
Even though very few details have been revealed by the Los Angeles Police Department concerning El Mago’s murder, it has been reported that he was killed on Thursday morning in an industrial area of Willowbrook.
According to Borderland Beat, the authorities arrived at the scene around 8.30 AM and found three victims, with two dead and one suffering critical wounds.
While El Mago was 39 at the time of death, according to his previous convicted reports, Guillermo De Los Angeles Jr., the second victim, was 47. The age of the third victim is expected to be between 20 and 30.
As per Sheriff Lt. Omar Camacho’s statement, here’s the current situation of the case and how they are planning to proceed forward with the investigation:
“We have no motive at this time. It appears that there was some type of gathering or party at the location from last night to early this morning. It’s too early in the investigation to figure out if we have a possible suspect detained or witnesses that we still need to contact.”
A few vehicles, including a black Cadillac Escalade, a BMW, and a Chevrolet, have also been found at the scene, with the shell casings of the bullets scattered beside them.
As of now, we do not have more details related to the incident, but we await more information as the investigation progresses.
So, what do you think about the Willowbrook shooting? Do you believe it was someone who was linked to one of his opposing drug cartels?
