There are no real superheroes or even vigilantes like Batman and Daredevil who can climb skyscrapers with their bare hands or grappling hooks.
However, there are humans who love extreme sports. From skydiving to climbing the tallest structures known to man, these people love living life on the edge to get the sought-after adrenaline rush.
One such individual was Remi Lucidi. The Frenchman was known for climbing the tallest known structures without any protection. He didn’t even take a harness or parachute on his climbing missions.
The 30-year-old man was known as Remi Enigma on social media and was famous in the extreme sports community. However, the stunt photographer met his demise during one such incident.
Remi Lucidi, known as Enigma, died after falling from the 68th floor of Hong Kong’s Tregunter Tower. Lucidi lied to the guard of the residential building and said that he was visiting someone who lived on the 40th floor of the place. Once the climber got access, he went up to the tower’s top floor from where he intended to take a photo. But things went wrong, and he slipped and fell to his death. No suicide note was found at his death scene, although his camera and ID were recovered.
What Really Happened To Remi Lucidi?
Remi Lucidi toured and climbed several of the tallest buildings and structures in countries like France, Columbia, Dubai, and Bulgaria. Hailing from France’s Montpellier, the daredevil stuntman loved documenting his escapades on Instagram.
He began his adventures in 2016. For his latest action, he was in Hong Kong, where he was planning to climb a high-rise residential building called the Tregunter Tower.
However, in a case of sudden tragedy, Lucidi fell off the tower’s 68th floor and plummeted to his death on the patio. The news of the adventurer’s demise spread quickly across social media, where many expressed their grief.
South China Morning Post reported that he was staying at the Ashoka Hostel in Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui and had entered the Tregunter Tower at around 7:30 PM under the guise of seeing someone he knew on the 40th floor.
Instead, he had gone straight up to the 49th floor on the elevator and then taken the stairs to reach the top. The door to the rooftop was locked, but Lucidi forced it open. It’s alleged that he thought of taking a photo at the top. But things went wrong, and he lost his footing at the zenith of the 721 ft skyscraper, which resulted in him getting trapped in a perilous situation.
A housemaid reportedly heard tapping on the window and was so terrified that she immediately left the room and called the authorities. It’s thought that it was Lucidi asking for help. But help never arrived for him.
The daredevil stuntman was last seen alive at 7:38 PM. The police at the scene found his camera and ID. The last photo he posted was of the Hong Kong skyline to his more than 30,000 followers on Instagram.
The owner of the hostel he was staying at, Gurjit Kaur, said that Lucidi looked healthy and humble to him. He had also told him that he planned to hike in the area and explore the place. An autopsy result is pending.
It will give further details about the cause of his death. The resident of the 40th floor of the Tregunter Tower later confirmed during the investigation that he didn’t know who Lucidi was. The French Embassy has been notified, and the local authorities have confirmed that no suicide note was found at the crime scene.
The existence of living members of his family hasn’t been confirmed yet. His death has once again highlighted the risky nature of following passions that takes one to the extreme. However, some of his followers suspect something nefarious could have happened. Authorities have given no indication regarding any wrongdoing in the case.
