In the ongoing Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, the Shibuya Incident arc is unfolding with escalating intensity. Gojo’s untimely sealing has only heightened the stakes of this crisis.
The only glimmer of hope lies in Yuta, a special-grade sorcerer. However, his whereabouts remain unknown in the current timeline despite his appearance in the prequel movie.
So where is he?
Warning: This article contains spoilers from the JJK anime and manga.
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, Gojo was sealed in the Prison Realm during the Shibuya Incident arc, while Yuta Okkotsu trained in Africa under Miguel’s guidance. Gojo acknowledges Yuta’s potential to surpass his power. Although Yuta was absent during the Shibuya arc, fans eagerly await his return, speculating it may be in the season 2 finale or season 3.
Where Is Yuta During The Shibuya Arc? Where Was He When Gojo Got Sealed?
Yuta’s story is interesting. As a child, he experienced the tragic death of his friend Rika Orimoto, who was fatally struck by a car.
Tragically, Yuta’s rejection of this accident led to a curse that transformed Rika into a vengeful spirit, haunting him for years.
Over time, Rika’s curse grew immensely powerful, becoming one of the most formidable spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen’s history.
This incident resulted in Yuta’s transformation into a special-grade cursed human, and he eventually found himself under the mentorship of Satoru Gojo at Tokyo Jujutsu High.
Even after Rika’s curse was broken and her soul found peace in the afterlife, her spirit remained bound to Yuta.
This unique connection allowed him to retain his status as a Jujutsu Sorcerer, further shaping the complex narrative of their intertwined fates.
While the Shibuya Incident arc unfolded in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 with sorcerers facing their worst nightmares, Yuta Okkotsu was training in Africa under the tutelage of Miguel.
Notably, Miguel was one of the curse users involved in the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, instigated by Geto.
It was Gojo who had vanquished Miguel, the most formidable member of Geto’s group of curse users, destroying Miguel’s Black Rope and subsequently sending him to Africa to train Yuta.
Megumi made a brief mention of Yuta’s overseas training after the Fearsome Womb arc, but the details remained undisclosed.
Gojo recognizes Yuta’s immense potential, believing that Yuta can surpass even his power. Consequently, he invests considerable effort into helping Yuta reach his full potential.
The manga wraps up the Shibuya Incident arc in Chapter 136, and Yuta is poised to make his debut in Chapter 137 during Itadori’s Examination arc.
While Yuta’s presence was notably absent during the Shibuya Incident, even after Gojo was sealed in the Prison Realm, his return is eagerly anticipated by fans.
It’s plausible that Season 2 of the anime might conclude with Yuta making a significant appearance before the higher-ups and entering into a Binding Vow to eliminate Yuji Itadori.
Episode 22 is scheduled for release on December 21, 2023, followed by the grand finale, Episode 23, on December 28, 2023.
Also, in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuta Okkotsu’s story holds a unique place in the series’ development.
Originally envisioned by Gege Akutami as the protagonist of the entire series, Yuta’s narrative took a different turn when Yuji Itadori assumed the role of the central character.
However, Yuta’s journey is far from forgotten, and his return promises to bring a fresh dynamic to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
This intriguing development hints at the complex and intertwined destinies of the series’ characters.
He is set to play a central role, further enriching the tapestry of the Jujutsu Kaisen narrative, particularly as the series progresses into Season 3.
When do you think Yuta will return? Will it be in season 2 itself? Or will we have to wait for season 3?
