Jujutsu Kaisen’s claim to fame is Satoru Gojo. A majority of the fanbase is in awe of the majestic character who has dominated the entire manga with his charisma, power, and narcissism. Of course, we can’t forget about the viral quotes he has uttered.
So, when Gege Akutami unceremoniously killed Gojo off in chapter 236 of Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s safe to say that fans didn’t take it lightly. From death threats to immense hate, Gege’s decision seems to have endangered his personal safety.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans currently hate Gege Akutami for killing off Gojo Satoru in chapter 236 of the manga. Gege’s decision has left fans grieving, and the nonchalant demise is not sitting well with anyone. Thus, Akutami has received plenty of death threats and hate tweets via social media sites.
In the previous chapter, Gojo was sure of his victory, but now he is suddenly dead, and the author has not given fans any chance to process it as the manga immediately progressed forward to another fight.
Gojo, as a character, wasn’t properly fleshed out, and only his prone body was shown. Many consider the death to be rushed as if the author was aching to get rid of him. Gojo is not present in the storyline for three years and gets killed as soon as he is out.
Even if Gojo were to die, fans expected a more valiant battle with an impactful death rather than a rushed fight. Part of the reason might be Gege’s impatience to get the other characters to work.
Currently, the entire fandom is hoping for Gojo’s revival in the upcoming chapters, but everything is in the hands of the Gojo-hating author.
Gege has shown frequent disdain for Jujutsu Kaisen’s character, Satoru Gojo. He has previously tweeted some hateful comments regarding Gojo and does not elaborate much on the character, even in interviews.
When Gojo was sealed in 2020, Akutami commented, “Now that Gojo is gone, it’s looking like 2020’s gonna be a good year.” However, Gege’s hate comments on Gojo had started way before. In 2019, he said, “Something Satoru Gojo doesn’t have…Probably a personality.”
The flood of dislike doesn’t end here. When Gojo won the Jump Festa popularity poll by a landslide, Gege commented, “Those who voted for Gojo. Especially women. Here’s some friendly advice: pick Nanami.” Gojo later ranked third in the first character popularity poll.
So why does Gege hate the character he created so much? Especially when everyone has welcomed the guy with open arms, and he has single-handedly boosted manga sales?
Gege Akutami seems to have immense hatred for Gojo due to his overpowered status. Gojo is so powerful that he makes it very hard to introduce a new threat. He also completely overshadows the other characters in the manga.
Even Gojo’s voice actor, Yuichi Nakamura, finds it annoying to play the character for obvious reasons. Gojo is arrogant and has a God complex (rightfully so) due to his immense powers. He has held the throne for the strongest character in Jujutsu Kaisen, which is why he was sealed away for the villains to have a chance at getting control.
Now that a pillar of the story is gone, fans are interested to see how the plot progresses. Will a bunch of 15-year-olds be able to defeat a thousand-year-old special grade curse? Or will Gege inevitably bring Gojo back?
