If you have just started watching season 3 of Sweet Magnolias, you are bound to question what’s all the drama behind Cal. To be honest, season 2 ended in February 2022, so no one will blame you for not remembering what had last happened. Fear not! We are here to refresh your memory!
Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias begins with the aftermath of Cal’s arrest. Erik, Dana Sue, Maddie, and Cal visit Helen’s home to work on his legal defense after he was released on bail by Helen.
Suddenly, Cal’s anger management issues are out in the open, and his partner can no longer trust him. So let’s break down the events that led to the arrest of Cal.
What Did Cal Do to Get Arrested?
At the end of season 2, Cal gets arrested at Sullivan’s restaurant for fighting an unhinged fan. Season 3 begins after he is bailed from jail.
Stu was first introduced in season 2, episode 8, where he met Cal at a fundraiser and expressed that he was a huge fan. Cal’s baseball career has greatly affected him and his late father. Apparently, the man and his father loved going to the games and praised Cal for the excellent sliding catch he did in the past.
It was the last game he could ever watch with his dad, as the latter soon became sick. Stu considers the last match a gift from heaven and from Cal as it gave him some precious memories with his father.
Cal offers condolences and relates to the story as his father had also passed away. They bid farewell peacefully, but Stu appears once again in the finale of season 2.
After Cal gets fired from being the baseball coach at Serenity High School, Stu shows up at Sullivan’s to offer support to Cal. Stu forces his way towards Cal, acting overly familiar. When the staff tells him to return to his seat, he disobeys and looks erratic.
Cal tries to convince the man to take his seat, but Stu just gets more and more hyper. In fact, Stu seems ready to fight someone for Cal. Stu notices that Dana Sue is trying to call the police in between the commotion.
Cal forces Stu out of the kitchen and ignores Maddie’s advice to wait for the sheriff. Cal gives Stu a reality check by telling him that a two-minute conversation did not make them friends. Stu tries to rally Maddie to help him, at which point Cal loses his cool and punches him.
Maddie tells someone to call an attorney (Helen) while the kitchen staff tries to pull the men apart. This is where season 3 begins, as Cal is on bail after being arrested and needs legal help from Helen.
Cal has a long way to go, as he needs to work more on his anger management issues. Did you watch season 3 of Sweet Magnolias yet?
