Virgin River is a well-acted and well-written American romantic drama television series that premiered its fifth season on September 7. The first season aired in 2019 and proved that drama can be emotional without being emotionally manipulative.
The story of the series follows Melinda “Mel” Monroe, who answers an ad to work as a midwife and nurse practitioner in the remote fictional Northern California town of Virgin River.
Based on the novels of the same name by Robyn Carr, their seasons have been widely appreciated by the audiences. While the fifth season showed Virgin River, California, going through a lot of tricky, heartbreaking situations, learning and growing from their struggles, it has been renewed for a new season by Netflix.
Will There Be A Virgin River Season 6?
Following the success of its previous season, Virgin River has a long history of keeping audiences on their toes after each season finale.
Adding to it, Netflix has officially announced that there are still two more episodes of Virgin River set to premiere in 2023, but there is no clarity on the release date.
When Will Virgin River Season 6 Release?
Part one of Virgin River Season 5 hooked the audiences as they are still wondering when the sixth season will drop. But before that, the remaining two holiday-themed episodes of season five will drop on November 30, adding up to the expectation.
However, considering the recent WGA writer’s strike and SAG-AFTRA actor’s strike, the audiences will have to wait until it gets resolved. Along with many other shows and movies, it is likely that Virgin River season 6 will be significantly delayed.
The series star Annette O’Toole once posted on Instagram teasing about the season six. Following the official announcement by Netflix about the upcoming seasons, she posted a photo of a flower saying that the shooting for season 6 will start once the strike is settled.
“Some roses to celebrate the good news: #VirginRiver season 5 will air in the fall and we’re going to film season 6 as soon as the strike is settled. #WGAStrong!” said the post by the Virgin River star.
What To Expect From Virgin River Season 6?
Apart from the announcement, nothing much has been revealed by the makers of the show. As the Netflix series is based on the book series of the same name by Robyn Carr, audiences might have an idea about what might happen next.
Assumingly, the storyline can be around something entirely new. “I think we definitely see more longevity and growth with the show,” said Jinny Howe, head of drama series development and content acquisition at Netflix, to Deadline.
Cast Of The Virgin River Season 6
Throughout the seasons, the storylines have been ever-evolving, making it difficult to know for sure who will be returning for season six. While it is a struggle to picture a compelling town without Mel, Jack, Doc, and Hope, it can be assumed that the majority of the cast will return, as the leading and supporting characters have been played by the same actors’ season after season.
Alexandra Breckenridge and Annette O’Toole have posted on social media about season six, so it is pretty clear they are going to return. Adding more to the list, Henderson, O’Toole, and Matheson might hopefully return.
While production on season 6 is yet to begin, Virgin River season 5 part 2 premieres November 30, 2023.
