Norse Mythology has been a fascination for people at large. From massive productions like Marvel to much smaller ones, everyone profits from the story.
Netflix’s TV series, Ragnarok on Norse Mythology and its mightiest God, Thor, has released the season finale, and we are confused.
The season finale closed on a rather happy note, which is appreciated but left many things unanswered. Let’s first answer the biggest question, Will Ragnarok have a season 4? (Spoilers ahead!)
Season 3 of Ragnarok is now available and contains every conceivable climax. This means there will be no season 4, but there is potential for a spin-off and prequel. The finale episode gave closure to Magne’s character, leaving a few cliffhangers for a possible future, we suppose. In the last scene, Magne throws his comic book collection and walks to a brunch table, where his brother and others are surprised yet happy to see him. He reconciles with his girlfriend, Signy, and moves ahead of his demons.
Did Magne Envision Ragnarok?
The series started with Magne and his family relocating to Edda. As they all stepped into the town, things started playing out, leaving Magne in doubt. In the beginning, Magne wasn’t ready to accept that people like Vidar and his family (The Giants) were anything but normal. By the end of season one, he learned about his powers and believed that he was Thor, the God of Thunder.
The series also reflects the inner battles of a troubled teenager. Magne had suffered in the past, and seeing his mother fighting to make ends meet also affected him.
Amidst all this, he lost his friend Isolde. He thought it was Vidar’s doing, as Isolde wanted to expose Vidar Industries’ wrongdoings. However, according to the police, Isolde died in a paragliding accident and nothing more.
Season 2 brought many characters from Norse mythology to life in Magne’s life. One of which was his half-brother, Laurits. Laurits changed his personality after he learned about his biological father, Vidar. He recognized himself as Loki.
The same season also gave Magne his weapon, Mjolnir. He used this weapon to bring an end to the system where Vidar’s family, the giants, were the influential family that was running the town. He killed Vidar, but that was not the end.
Ran, Fjor, and Saxa fought back. Saxa took hold of Vidar Industries, and Ran decided to take things into her own hands. Laurits was broken. He lost his father once again. He also turned against Magne.
Season 3 showcased the final between the Giants and Magne. Magne and his allies killed the Giants. While Magne was fighting the serpent, he got poisoned and died with the serpent.
But if he and the giants died in the battle, why was everyone still alive for the graduation? Magne’s sense of reality was somewhat awakened in the final scene, where the Graduates were presented. Magne stepped out of his dream world and moved forward to live a normal life.
Magne finally learned that it was all in his head. There were no giants or Gods.
Can There Be a Season 4 in the Future?
The production house ended the show rather sooner than anticipated. There were rumors about Netflix canceling the show, so the production house might have decided to serve the final season with a satisfying end.
However, if the production company chooses another platform to come up with a spin-off, the chances are ripe that Laurits or Gry (Fjor and Magne’s love interest) can get their own show. We already have Marvel’s Loki on Disney Plus. This could inspire the production house to come up with a separate show focusing on Lauritis’ journey.
If they pick Gry, who left town in the first season, she can have similar characteristics to Jane Foster (Marvel).
It would be interesting to see Magne’s entry in either of the productions.
What are your views on the same? Are you secretly wishing for a spin-off too? How did you find Ragnarok season 3?
