Already discovered all the Pokémons around your neighborhood in Pokémon GO? Tired of walking the same road every day and getting disappointed with no new Pokémons? Pokémon GO developer Niantic has come up with the perfect solution for you.
If you have been playing Pokémon GO for a while, you know that you usually walk around wherever you want in search of Pokémons. However, the latest feature will let you create new routes or follow routes created by others. The feature is conveniently named ‘Routes.’
What are Pokémon Go Routes?
Routes is a new feature added to the Pokémon GO game where a set path can be followed by the player. The Route can be created by Niantic or community members and will provide more fun to explore.
Niantic explains: “Imagine what you’ll find as you travel another Trainer’s Route — an encounter with your favorite Pokémon? A new friend to share Raid Battles with? Follow a Route and find out!”
You get to find out more about your local area while discovering your surroundings, and you will also receive extra bonuses for following or completing a new Route. In fact, you will also get a Buddy Bade or Buddy Heart if you complete a Route with a friend.
Bonus XP for the first Route of the day is also another advantage to it.
Where can I find Pokémon Go Routes?
In order to access Pokémon GO Routes, follow the below directions:
- Click on the ‘Nearby Pokémon’ menu, and choose the ‘Routes’ tab.
- Now you can either choose a nearby route or widen the search by using ‘See Nearvy Routes’
- You can tap on any Route to preview it and click ‘Follow’ if you plan to use it.
- Go to the starting point of the Route, and follow the path according to the app.
If you want to take a break or explore something around you, you can press the pause button on the menu. When you are ready to return to the Route, you have to press play.
How to Create Pokémon GO Routes
Pokémon GO Routes is a fairly new feature that was added just a week ago, so it is still being developed and is not available to everyone yet. According to Niantic, you can keep an eye on your email to check if the feature is ready for you or not.
When the Routes feature becomes available, you can follow the steps below to create your own Route.
- Go to a Pokestop or Gym and make it the starting point of your Route.
- Go to the Routes tab, and mark it as the starting point.
- Tap Record and begin capturing the Route as you walk.
- Then travel to the endpoint that you want and mark it. You can change the endpoint while mapping the Route.
- Fill in some additional information regarding the Route and press submit.
Your Route will be reviewed to ensure there’s no inappropriate content, and then it will be accessible to everyone. Up to four new Routes can be submitted per week, but some aren’t likely to get selected. The review might be delayed depending on the number of people offering Routes.
If your Route has been greenlit, you can find it in the Routes tab next to the Badge Collection.
I hope you have fun with this all-new feature, but at the same time, I’m concerned about people misusing it. Let’s hope no inappropriate content passes through the filters and no one gets in trouble for following a Route.
Comment below if you think this is a good feature or if it will bring trouble to the Pokémon GO community.
