Youtubers and drama go hand in hand. In fact, plenty of YouTubers aim to create as much drama as possible to get a ton of views.
However, when drama goes from being innocuous to about false claims of sexual assault, that’s when the sirens begin blaring.
Something similar has happened with Nick Green, also known as Nickisnotgreen online, which landed him in hot water.
Nick Green, known as Nickisnotgreen or Greenisnotnick on online platforms, was embroiled in a controversy with Matt and Ryan, the comedic duo of Supermega. He had falsely accused them of trying to cover up the sexual assault carried out by one of their former employees, Don, on another, a female creator called Lex Updog. Nick apologized for this on November 29, 2023.
What Is The Nickisnotgreen Controversy?
On November 29, 2023, YouTuber Nick Green, who is well known on Twitter by his @nickisnotgreen handle, posted three images of text without any caption to his 99.6K Followers.
One part of the text read:
“I was trying to help a friend, but I was stubborn and emotional instead of trying to take the proper time to hear how I could have done better from people who were rightfully concerned. I wrongfully gave more value to the opinions of those who agreed with me over those who were holding me accountable for valid reasons.”
But what happened that led to this?
A quick search of his name online reveals that many people are joyfully celebrating him losing out on over 100k subs and accusing him of lying over sensitive matters.
Turns out, Nick had accused Matt and Ryan, a comedic duo who make up the Supermega channel, of trying to cover up a sexual assault. One of their former employees, Don, committed this heinous act against another known as Lex.
However, this wasn’t what happened.
The entire saga began when the content creator channel- Lex Updog posted a now-unlisted 2-hour video sharing her experience with being sexually assaulted. Per her video, it was done by Matt and Ryan’s former employee, Don.
While it did happen in their offices, Matt and Ryan had nothing to do with it. Also, even though Don initially tried to give his side of the story, he ultimately apologized.
But this wasn’t the end of it.
In the video, Lex implied that she was dissatisfied with how Matt and Ryan handled the issue.
At one point, they had asked Don and her to talk it out and were also worried about how it might affect their brand rather than trying to ensure that Lex got the justice she deserved.
Additionally, she said they took many days to respond to the situation. Basically, they could have handled the situation better, and the duo even accepted this shortcoming and apologized for it.
Lex’s friend Nickisnotgreen then basically accused Matt and Ryan of trying to cover up the assault, which wasn’t what happened. So, after months of back and forth, Nick finally apologized.
What Is Nickisnotgreen’s Controversial History?
This isn’t the first time Nickisnotgreen has been embroiled in controversies.
Initially, Nick was lauded by many as an inclusive commentator. He went viral after making a video on popular personality Niko “Sneako” titled “YouTube should ban SNEAKO.”
There, he alleged that Niko was retaliating against a female YouTuber by the handle of Chad Chad after she had criticized a TikTok dating guru.
Nick alleged that Sneako was miming sexual assault against Chad Chad to get back at her. Many other popular YouTubers reacted to this, and ultimately, Niko’s channels- “Sneako” and “Shneako” were terminated on October 3.
Soon, Nick began giving commentary on other topics. But his viewers noticed something- he tended to consider rumors, speculations, and gossip as facts a lot, especially those that fed into his narratives.
Also, many viewers accused him of creating a hero and villain narrative where the side he supported was right and the one he was bashing was wrong. This frustrated many because they wanted all the details in unbiased coverage.
He also got a lot of criticism and backlash for making fun of a lady receiving death threats and sexual assault threats on a dating app because she had created a profile mentioning being “leftist, bi, poly, neurodivergent.”
From then on, he never really recovered because then came the Supermega controversy that could potentially ruin his YouTube career, even though he has apologized.
What do you think will happen with Nickisnotgreen next? Will he gain back the trust of his viewers again?
