The best horror games are the ones that not only scare but also scar in some way psychologically. The Blair Witch game, Silent Hill, Dark Pictures anthology, etc., all do this job remarkably well. Now, another game has joined this list- My Eyes Deceive.
However, this simple and short Roblox game that has been removed from the platform is worse in some way than any of the abovementioned ones. It’s because the horror doesn’t come from ghosts, ghouls, and monsters.
My Eyes Deceive has two endings- good and bad. In the good ending, the girl doesn’t take the sedatives and escapes the basement where her father kept her. In the bad ending, she takes the pills, and nothing changes. Ultimately, she gets sexually assaulted by her father and ends up pregnant. The game was removed from Roblox because the developer, Nouhidev, was unhappy that it was getting more plays there than at itch.io, where he had initially made it.
Ending Explained: My Eyes Deceive Game
In My Eyes Deceive, you play as a little girl who has been locked in the basement of her home by her father. Her daily routine is simple: wake up, take pills, drink water, make food, interact with her father, and go to sleep.
Sometimes, she interacts with new objects. Her father talks to her from the basement’s roof through a hatch and explains that the world outside is dangerous and diseased. The pills are supposed to help her combat those diseases.
But one day, the father doesn’t return for a few days. You then get to make a choice- do you keep taking the pills or defy the father’s order and not take them? It will determine what kind of ending the girl gets.
The Good Ending:
If you don’t take the pills, you will get a good ending. In both situations, the father will come home and ask if you have taken them. If you don’t take them, you will lie and then pretend to go to sleep.
Right then, there will be a sudden disturbance, making the father leave the basement hatch open. This will let you explore the house and find out that the pills are sedatives. The father was absent for a few days because of a police check.
You then run out of the house, discover the normal outside world, get help, and escape the monstrous father’s shadow.
The Bad Ending:
If you do take the pills, nothing will change. You will go to sleep and miss your chance to escape. That’s not all. It gets ghastly. On day 147, when the little girl meets her father, she will ask- “Why do I feel nauseous every morning now, Papa”? Thus implying that she is pregnant and he has been sexually assaulting his child.
However, this was a tamer version of the bad ending on Roblox. In the original conclusion, she asks why her stomach is big and round. This dialogue was removed due to censorship on the platform. But why was the entire game removed from Roblox? Was it due to the content? Not at all.
Why Was My Eyes Deceive Game Taken Down?
The psychological horror game- My Eyes Deceive was removed from the Roblox platform. But you can still play it in its original form on itch.io. The game was created by Nouhidev, an independent developer, and released in May 2023 on itch.io. In September, he allowed it to be put on Roblox by another small developer, Cheez Plox.
A month later, in October, he realized that the game had drawn in way more plays than the original version on itch.io. The number of plays was higher by the thousands on Roblox. Also, what frustrated Nouhidev more was gaming YouTubers not giving him credit for developing My Eyes Deceive.
So he requested the game to be pulled from Roblox and directed anyone to the itch.io page to play it. Thankfully, since the Roblox version of the game was a direct port of the original, it will remain unchanged on itch.io. You can play the game there.
What are your thoughts about My Eyes Deceive? Was it as brutal as you had hoped for it to be? Should the developer have let the game stay on Roblox?
