The Kansas City Chiefs have added a new pass catcher, Rashee Rice, whose last name has piqued fan curiosity about a potential relation to another player.

The burning question: are they related? You probably won’t be too surprised to know the answer.

No, Rashee Rice isn’t related to Jerry Rice. They just coincidentally share the last name. Rashee Rice was born on April 22, 2000, in North Richland Hills, Texas, while Jerry Rice was born on October 13, 1962, in Starkville, Mississippi. They come from different backgrounds.

In a surprising move during Round 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft, the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, made a trade that caught the attention of fans worldwide.

They traded up eight spots, moving from the 63rd overall pick to select Rashee Rice, a promising talent from the SMU Mustangs.

This move ignited curiosity among fans who began speculating about a potential family connection between Rashee Rice and the legendary NFL great Jerry Rice.

The question of familial ties between these two Rice’s quickly became a topic of discussion within the NFL community. However, a fact-check swiftly dispels any notion of a familial connection between the two players.

Jerry Rice, often regarded as one of the all-time greats in NFL history, was born on October 13, 1962, in Starkville, Mississippi.

He grew up in a large family, one of eight children, in a humble household. Jerry’s father worked as a mason, while his mother was employed as a house cleaner.

Interestingly, despite not initially engaging in organized sports during high school, Jerry’s remarkable speed caught the attention of his principal, who recommended him to the school’s football coach.

This recommendation marked the beginning of Jerry Rice’s illustrious football journey, leading to his incredible success in college and the NFL.

Rice had a remarkable four-season college football career with the esteemed Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils, setting numerous NCAA and team receiving records, including becoming the all-time NCAA receiving touchdowns leader.

In the NFL, he enjoyed a prolific 20-season career, primarily with the San Francisco 49ers, winning three Super Bowl titles.

Nicknamed “World” for his exceptional catching ability, Rice is widely recognized as the most excellent wide receiver in NFL history and one of the league’s all-time greats, thanks to his impressive accomplishments and numerous records.

In contrast, Rashee Rice was born on April 22, 2000, in North Richland Hills, Texas. While there is limited publicly available information about his family background, his path to the NFL differs significantly from that of Jerry Rice.

Rashee Rice dedicated his entire collegiate career to Southern Methodist University, where he made a significant impact as a wide receiver.

In his senior year, he amassed over 1,000 receiving yards, scored an impressive ten touchdowns, and earned recognition on the All-AAC First Team. These achievements solidified his position as an up-and-coming talent in the world of football.

Although the similarity in their last names may have sparked curiosity, it is clear that Jerry Rice and Rashee Rice do not share any familial relationship.

Their distinct life stories and unique paths to the NFL highlight the diversity of backgrounds and experiences within the league.

While the Rice duo does not share a family bond, it is worth noting that the NFL boasts several instances of family connections among its players. These relationships extend beyond the well-known example of Travis Kelce and his brother.
