Is Kraven the Hunter in the MCU?
For those wondering if Kraven is a part of the MCU, let us give you a straight answer, NO. On the contrary, Sony’s standalone movie is part of its Sony Spider-Man Univer (SSU), also referred to as the Venomverse.
So far, the SSU has released superhero movies, predominantly owned by Sony Pictures, like Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius, making Kraven the Hunter the fourth edition of the Spider-Man universe. The movies are interlinked with each other, with villains and heroes making cameos in other installments perpetually.
The SSU also follows Marvel’s footsteps, expanding its universe as three more movies stand queued in the pre-production stage. Although fans who have diligently watched Kraven the Hunter’s trailer have already spotted a Spider-Man connection.
Be it Venom: Let There Be Carnage which featured Peter Parker during its post-credit scene, the obvious spider references in these films are not negligible.
Is Kraven Hunter Villain or Hero?
While it would be difficult to draw a line, the safest bet is to call Kraven an ‘Anti-hero.’ Being the hunter that he is, Kraven is on a quest to defeat Spider-Man, amid their short-lived relationship.
This animosity between the two was even hinted at in the trailer, as a web of spiders made its way on screen, which also means that fans will further get to witness why Kraven craves victory over Spider-Man.
After being injected with magical potions periodically that add to his superpowers, Kraven sure has superhuman abilities on display. Be it his eagle-eye vision or incredible reflexes, it is safe to say Kraven is more than just a hunter, as his titular name suggests.
One can simply neglect Marvel’s portrayal of the character, who has always been depicted as the ‘killer predator’ that he is.
While it is no surprise that Kraven looks at Spider-Man as his biggest nemesis and swears to hunt him down. References of the same are made in the comic ‘Kraven’s Last Hunt,’ where Kraven not only hunts and defeats Spider-Man, but also shoots him to death before burying him.
This not only proves Kraven’s superpowers but also his hatred for Spider-Man speaks volumes about his anti-hero personality.
Kraven the Hunter is all set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 6, 2023.
Do you also think Kraven is an anti-hero at his best? Or do his superpowers compel you into thinking that he’s not less than a ‘superhero’ himself?
