Encanto is the newest addition to Disney’s endless list of hits. This animated musical has received much praise for its warm storytelling and approach to each character.
The movie follows the lives of the magical Madrigal family and one member in particular, Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz). The film’s premise surrounds a “Miracle Candle” that the Matriarch of the family, Alba Madrigal, is given upon fleeing conquerors.
From this candle, every generation of the Madrigal family has been receiving powers. All but one, Mirabel. Here, We join her journey to be helpful to her family and do whatever she can to keep them happy.
The best part of this movie was that it did not feel centered around the protagonist, Mirabel, and made efforts to build the character and stories of all members of the Madrigal family. The bottom line is that everyone has their reason for how they are and that no one is truly bad or all good.
But, Of course, One character we grow to love is Bruno Madrigal. First shown as the potential antagonist of this movie, we learn of what a soft-hearted individual he truly is and how much he looks out for his family. As the movie progresses, we are shown the sacrifices that Bruno had to make to keep his family safe.
In the initial song introducing Bruno as a supposed antagonist, “We don’t talk about Bruno, ” we’re told that he stands at 7 feet (2.13 m) tall. Yet, when he finally meets Mirabel, it becomes obvious that this is nowhere near the case. So, let’s get to the bottom of this mystery.

Who Is Bruno Madrigal In Encanto?
Bruno Madrigal (voiced by John Leguizamo) is the son of Alba Madrigal (voiced by Maria Cecelia Botero), the Matriarch of the Madrigal family. Though initially portrayed as the antagonist of the movie, we soon learn that Bruno is just someone who can see into the future and not someone who can make events happen by speaking of them.
Bruno’s power of foresight is mistaken for the ability to speak things into existence, and the people of the village shun him, believing that he is causing their misery. This alienation led him to go into hiding in his house.
His unusual powers make him an outsider before the movie’s events, but Mirabel teaches us that we must embrace all kinds of weirdness. We eventually learn of the true nature of this slightly weird character and that he simply left in hopes of protecting the village and his family. The last scene, where Bruno finally meets his mother’s embrace, truly is one of the most touching scenes in the movie.
How Old Is Bruno Madrigal In Encanto?
To understand this, let’s first look at how old Mirabel is in the movie. Mirabel is depicted as a bumbling, busy teenager who is always running about, trying to make herself useful. It becomes increasingly obvious that she is a teenager; according to the filmmakers, she is 15 years old. She is the youngest of three girls, with the oldest, Isabela, 21 years of age. Assuming that Isabela’s mother, Julieta Madrigal, got married around the same period, that would make Julieta around 45–50 years old.
We know that Alba Madrigal has triplets; thus, they all share the same birthday and are of the same age. Therefore, it is safe to assume that Bruno Madrigal is around 50 years of age. It has also been stated in the movie that the “Miracle” happened 50 years ago. Hence, we can conclude that Bruno is 50 years old, give or take a few.
How Tall Is Bruno Madrigal In Encanto?
As mentioned earlier, in the song “We don’t talk about Bruno,” we are introduced to the character for the first time, and he is portrayed as a looming, sinister figure who could give the boogeyman a run for his money. Furthermore, in the song, Mirabel’s cousin Camilo describes him as over 7 feet (2.13 m) tall, depicting him as an even more imposing figure.
However, when we first see Mirabel side by side with her uncle, it becomes clear that Bruno is nowhere near that height. Unless, of course, they are a magical family, and they could all be incredibly tall, but the theory also doesn’t work as we see them next to the villagers, who seem to be normal-sized human beings.
According to Bruno’s voice actor, Mirabel is depicted to be around 5’2 ft in height; therefore, Bruno should only be a few inches taller than that. When hugging his mother, Bruno seems to be around the same height as her, which is about 5’5 ft. Hence, we can come to the informed conclusion that Bruno Madrigal is 5’5 ft. tall.
