Everyone was gutted when it was announced that Henry Cavill would depart from Netflix’s The Witcher after season 3.
It can’t be denied that in the eyes of many, the former Man of Steel star is the perfect Geralt of Rivia. Social media was in an uproar, and petitions were made to bring him back somehow.
This was being done even though Liam Hemsworth was already announced as the next Geralt, and Cavill was going to hand over the swords to him after season 3 ended. Now, season 3 is over. But fans aren’t sure about Geralt’s status, as they are asking if he is even alive post the end of the latest season.
Henry Cavill’s Geralt doesn’t die in The Witcher season 3. Geralt and Ciri try to flee the island but get cornered by Vilgefortz. Geralt orders Ciri to run away, but she gets caught up at the tower of Tor Lara.
Vilgefortz and Geralt get into a fight where the mage breaks the witcher’s back and gifts him other injuries. Geralt gets saved by Triss and healed by Yennefer. Then he, Milva, and Jaskier head out to save Ciri. Liam Hemsworth will seamlessly take over from Cavill in season 4.
Does Geralt Die in The Witcher Season 3?
No, Geralt doesn’t die in season 3 of The Witcher, although he does get grievously injured. In season 3, Yennefer and Geralt try to protect Ciri from the enemies chasing her since the show began. At the back end of season 3, which consists of three episodes, Thanedd’s coup becomes the main focus.
Ciri and Geralt are separated once more, but the danger is more powerful than ever. It’s revealed that Vilgefortz organized the attempts to capture Ciri all this while. Ultimately, when Geralt and Ciri try to escape the island, they encounter Vilgefortz.
Geralt tells Ciri to flee, but she is unsuccessful and gets captured in the tower of Tor Lara. Geralt takes on Vilgefortz in a fight that tests the titular heroes’ strength because the villain is ruthless, cunning, and relentless. This mage is unlike anyone else the hero has faced.
It’s clear that the witcher is punching above his weight class here and trying to survive. Initially, Vilgefortz tries to get Geralt on his side because he knows he and Ciri are tied by destiny. But he refuses, and so Vilgefortz decides to kill him. In the ensuing fight, the mage breaks the witcher’s back and inflicts other injuries.
Vilgefortz then leaves after seeing that Geralt is in no condition to fight anymore. But he promises that they will meet again. Cavill’s hero would have died either due to the injuries sustained by him or by drowning because he was on the beach when the tides began to come in. But he gets saved by Triss, who takes him to Brokilon to be healed.
However, no matter the healing potions or medicines used, Geralt doesn’t seem to be healing. It’s possibly because he is a mutated creature, so standard healing procedures don’t take to him. In the end, he asks Yennefer to heal him by using her magic. She warns him that it will push him to his limits.
Geralt agrees, and the painful process is a success. While he doesn’t regain his full power, the hero is strong enough to fight. Later on, Milva, Jaskier, and Geralt head out to Nilfgaard to bring Ciri back. The rematch will be between Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt and Vilgefortz next time, and when Ciri gets rescued, it will be by Chris Hemsworth’s brother.
