Facebook, as one of the most popular socially engaging platforms in the world, sees approximately 2 billion daily active users every day and continuously evolves with time.
While the platform has brought about several changes over the years, with the way it connects its users, its brand redesign, and many others. Recently, many viewers also noticed a minimal change in its logo.
So, did Facebook change its blue wordmark, color, and logo? Yes, Facebook redesigned the logo with a new shade of blue using their custom typeface, Facebook Sans, and the changes took place on September 20, 2023. For this rebranding, the company used a blue color with the code Hex #316FF6, and it will be the first of many changes that apparently have been in the works for several months.
What Changes Did Facebook Make to Its Platform?
As you can see from the tweet above, the logo has been redesigned with a tint of thick blue, and this new blue color has been applied across the entire Facebook platform.
This entirely new palette will bring about subtle changes that will reflect on a user’s experience. In fact, the logo and the newly introduced blue look bolder, giving it a refreshing design worthy of calling it a Rebranding.
Why Is Facebook Changing Its Blue?
It is not unusual for companies to redesign their interface and logo quite often unless the initial or several following designs represent their best work. However, Facebook’s Design team has provided three main reasons for the latest change.
- To create a refreshing and distinctive look for Facebook by elevating essential items of the brand.
- Unifying the brand for product-to-marketing purposes.
- Anchoring the core blue color to make it more accessible to people.
The director of Design at Facebook, Dave N, quoted the need for rebranding and how it could affect the platform. In his words,
“The goal of our work was to expand upon our foundation and create the defining mark of our brand that anchors the identity system across Facebook. We wanted to ensure that the refreshed logo felt familiar, yet dynamic, polished and elegant in execution. These subtle, but significant changes allowed us to achieve optical balance with a sense of forward movement.”
What Changes Can the Users Expect From the Rebranding?
Although Facebook introduces many new features from time to time to stay relevant to the trend, the recent rebranding has brought a few positive changes. In addition to the slight change in logo, they also introduced a new set of hues unique to the brand.
Furthermore, Facebook also revealed that they changed the range of emotion in Reactions using the expanded color palette. Although these modifications haven’t been introduced yet, they will be rolling out in the coming months.
In addition to Reactions, the upcoming updates will also bring some changes to the texts and icons, but the details are still kept under wraps. Moreover, they promised to evolve the app’s design to suit the people’s needs.
Since these are the only specifics Facebook has revealed so far, the changes may not seem that impressive. However, they eventually make a difference in how we enjoy the app.
