Bada Lee's Smoke Dance Challenge & Reactions Explained

K-pop is always buzzing with some kind of challenge or controversy, but what if it has both? That’s precisely what’s going on with many K-pop idols right now.

Recently, Bada Lee, a South Korean choreographer and dancer, has started a dancing challenge, and many idols have hopped on the bandwagon by repeating the same moves as her and posting on their social media accounts.

Bada Lee’s challenge, known as the Smoke Dance Challenge, has caused a lot of reactions, with some praise and some criticism, but almost every popular idol has attempted it, proving how they can even make such stringent and complicated moves. Furthermore, there is also a type of debate between the fans of K-pop idols and other dance enthusiasts.

What Is Bada Lee’s Smoke Dance Challenge?

I'm sure Bada loved your dance with her choreo 🥰

Smoke Dance Challenge, created by Bada Lee as part of the female dance survival show Street Woman Fighter 2, includes several complicated moves with demanding speed that should match the dance beats.

No one is sure when the challenge became famous all of a sudden, but major K-pop idols such as BTS’ V, Ateez’s San, ITZY’s Yeji, and Jungkook have all repeatedly posted the challenge videos on their social media accounts.

What’s Happening Between K-Pop Fans and Others That Concern the Smoke Dance Challenge?

well a lot of them can’t even do the smoke challenge properly, so can we really expect any of them to do the click like challenge ? https://t.co/ElOVATD6sp

— adrian is meeting loossemble in 4 days (@N0_1RICKYLOVER) September 19, 2023

While many dancers and content creators have attempted the challenge, each adding their traditional style to it, K-pop idols are known for constantly performing intricate dance moves that involve a lot of hard work.

So, obviously, it is normal for their fans to overpraise their idols, while netizens consequently criticize them. This has sparked quite a debate on social media platforms such as X.

The disputes have been continuing as many X users began criticizing K-pop idols for not performing the difficult choreography of Smoke Dance Challenge. Some even claim that the idols are overdoing it and criticize them for being dancers only for the sake of being idols.

I’m sorry but this smoke challenge proved how many idol dancers don’t have the swag to pull a dance like this EXCEPT taekook and San from ateez https://t.co/J6xtTwUUdq

kpop stans don’t know what real choreography is, ive seen idols who dance it well because they actually know HOW TO DANCE 💀

Seeing those bg guys doing that smoke challenge just further proves that these groups aren't artists and don't know anything besides the choreo they learn to do for months and that's it. They can't freestyle or do any other choreo. They aren't artists. It's embarassing.

— s∞so⁷ ♡ (@sophs_twt) September 17, 2023

As usual, people run their mouths as long as it is not in person. So, neutral fans stepped up and shut their opinions by claiming that one should not judge someone who works hard if they can’t do the same.

Here’s a vid of Latrice from Jam Republic’s brother doing the exact same choreo as everyone else. It looks amazing cause he added his own flare & uniqueness to the dance WHILE staying on rhythm. A lot of these idols don’t dance cause they want to, they dance cause they HAVE to. https://t.co/ZJS2sspLzK pic.twitter.com/bOxQ8rJfBM

— DJ ☻ (@tomiokasfriend) September 18, 2023

It is not the first time, though. People not specifically into K-pop often find ways to criticize the artists while their fandom defends their bias like their life depends on it.

In any case, the bottom line is that no one should criticize someone unless they can do the challenge better than these idols and dancers, who work day and night to provide entertainment for fans worldwide.

While the arguments are unavoidable, the best thing you can do for the time being is to enjoy the challenges attempted by various idols and dancers. While we can’t include all the challenges, here are the prominent ones that you will love.

Let’s state some facts now. San of Ateez ate up everyone with his Smoke challenge infact he’s the only one who matched Bada Lee’s dance style & energy perfectly. Nobody did it as accurately as him & even Bada loved it. Cry about it+cope+nobody cares+stfu🫶🏽pic.twitter.com/qd42MOWqBW

— m. (@13voicesonesong) September 18, 2023

Following these challenges, fans debated on which idol should try it next and how they would perform based on their talent. For example, BTS’ J-Hope and Super Junior’s Eunhyuk have caught fans’ attention.

One die-hard fan of J-Hope even posted a dance video featuring J-Hope and how he would be the only one to rival Bada Lee in this challenge. You can see the tweet below:

I don't want anything so bad except seeing hobi doing smoke challenge!! No one can do it better than the best main dancer!! https://t.co/JvEbtQXvwX

— hobii (@hobii00205383) September 19, 2023

Meanwhile, Eunhyuk, being the main dancer of Super Junior, is also equally talented and would perfectly replicate the moments of Bada Lee.

So, what do you think about the Smoke Dance Challenge? Which K-pop idol do you want to see attempting it? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
