The 2022 film Bones and All might not be everyone’s cup of tea! With the movie’s central theme based on gore, killing, and cannibalism, it takes a strong heart to withstand all the brutal, graphic scenes of the film, not to mention its rather mind-bending storyline.
Since its release, the movie has been quite underrated, but the ones who’ve watched it can’t seem to take it out of their mind that easily! The film revolves around Maren, Lee, and Sully, who are- you guessed it right, cannibals!

Bones and All Ending Explained
In the climax scene of the film, we see Maren and Lee finally living a happy life, as they’ve officially committed to each other. Things don’t remain the same for the couple as their lives take a dark turn when Sully appears in their house out of nowhere.
Sully, a cannibal himself, was actually the guy who had introduced Maren to the world of cannibalism, but not long after it, she decided to abandon him. Sully makes efforts to take Maren back into his life but is never successful in doing so. Finally, Sully plans an evil idea to ruin the couple’s happiness forever.
After breaking into Lee and Maren’s apartment, Sully makes a fierce attack on Lee, almost wounding him to the core. Lee sustains attacks all over his body, majorly his heart, which has been brutally attacked by Sully, but Maren and Lee together are also successful in killing Sully. While Maren tries to help Lee, we can see Lee isn’t left with much hope, as he is quick to surrender to the situation.
As Lee accepts his fate and is aware of his death approaching him, he asks Maren to eat him instead, hoping that she can save him from misery by actually eating him. After rejecting initially, Maren gives in to Lee’s idea and eats him thereafter. This marks an end to their love story, as it leaves audiences questioning its horrific, nonetheless realistic ending.
The ending, however, is different from the original adaptation of the movie, the novel with a similar title by Camille DeAngelis, wherein Maren attacks Lee, not after his request but after a face-off between the two.
Is Sully in Love with Maren?
We can see in the movie that Sully is the one who introduces Maren to the cannibal world. Maren, who has always been clueless about her desire to attack and eat humans, never got any disclosure of her cannibalism, either by her parents or her father, who abandoned her. It is Sully who helps her with the identification of her true self.
While it is evident at the end of the film that Sully is attracted to Maren, he also confesses being attracted to her since he first met her and has been following her all along. Even when Maren is with Lee, traveling to find her mother, Sully tries to convince her to return with him, stating that he wants to be with her.
Call it attraction or mere obsession, but Sully’s feelings for Maren are what bring a catastrophic change in her life, as he decides to ruin her happiness by killing Lee, whom she is in love with.
Is Bones and All Movie Different From the Novel?
One of the major differences between the movie and the book is the relationship between Sully and Maren, which completely changes the foundation story of the plot. In the book, we see that Sully is Maren’s grandfather, which makes their dynamics fully different. On the other hand, in the film, Sully is just a creep who keeps following Maren and even confesses having developed a bond with her.
Another striking difference is the final confrontation scheme, wherein in the book; Sully is not successful in attacking Lee, who then bursts out on Maren instead and gets attacked. On the other hand, in the movie, Sully kills Lee partially, as Maren feeds up on him after his request.
