Spoiler Alert: Bleach TYBW Episode 1.
The Hollows keep disappearing at an alarming rate. Kurotsuchi Mayuri, who heads the research division and the 12th Division of the Gotei 13, suspects a widespread nefarious force behind this phenomenon.
Two shinigami stand arguing at the heart of Karakura Town. Shino Madarame and Ryunosuke Yuki replace Zennosuke Kurumadani as guardians of the town where the Substitute Shinigami dwells. Yuki is timid, and Shino tries hard to bring him out of his shell. They go in separate directions to hunt for hollows.
After this, Yuki encounters a gigantic one-eyed hollow while inspecting a bridge. Surprised and scared, he runs towards Shino and tries communicating with her. Then he reaches a roof where he finds more hollows, one of them holding onto the limp figure of a bloodied Shino. Yuki tries to use his Shikai but is wounded by the Hollow trailing him.
The heroes arrive at the scene. Inoue Orihime quickly gives first aid to both soul reapers who have been put out of commission. Yasutora Sado, Uryu Ishida, and Substitute Shinigami Kurosaki Ichigo take care of the small fry within moments. Then Yuki wakes up drowsily in a room as Orihime enters carrying a load of delicious bread (our girl hasn’t changed much over the years).
After Shino awakens, she scolds Yuki for being weak. While the two are bickering, a mysterious individual appears at the window. He has a Hollow mask and resembles the Arrancar. Kurosaki and lands kick this man in the middle of the street. Identifying himself as Asguiaro Ebern, the two engage in combat. Ebern is agitated when Ichigo asks if he is indeed an Arrancar.
The scene cuts to Soul Society. The offices of Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto are invaded by a group of fully-hooded figures clad in white. Yamaji watches as Chojiro Sasakibe gets impaled on the walls, and it seems he is mortally wounded. As the group declares war and says the destruction of Soul Society will commence in a few days, Yamamoto uses Ryujin Jakka to try and take out the enemies before they vanish.
Sasakibe informs Yamamoto that the new enemy can steal the Soul Reaper’s Bankai. Then we see Kurosaki Ichigo use Tenza Zangetsu as Ebern tries to take his signature ability away from him. He fails, and Ichigo tries to take him into custody to interrogate him. Still, the dude vanishes into a mist of black air that slowly dissipates away, much like his counterparts did in Soul Society.
