Anime shows have evolved with time, and the animation has become more and more visually striking with each passing year. The action scenes in these series have become much more epic thanks to this consequence.

Especially anime shows featuring sword action scenes, such as Demon Slayer, are always in demand with the fans. If you’re one of those who love watching Samurai shows, Onimusha is a great one to binge-watch.

With that in mind, here’s everything you need to know about Onimusha, including its plot, cast, trailer, release date, and where to watch.

Onimusha Anime Plot

Onimusha anime is based on Capcom’s famous video game series that brings the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi to life. Netflix has revealed the official synopsis of the anime, and it is as follows:

“Set in the early Edo Period, a time when Japan was transitioning towards peace, and warfare was fading into history, an aging Musashi embarks on a covert mission. Armed with the mythical “Oni Gauntlet,” Musashi embarks on an epic journey to vanquish the lurking demons.”

There are several anime and manga made based on this historical figure, including Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai and Vagabond. Nevertheless, there is always a new story to write since his iconic influence is not talked about enough.

Onimusha Anime Trailer

A month ago, the official YouTube channel of Netflix released the trailer for Onimusha, and you can watch it above.

As seen in the trailer, the anime takes viewers back to the Edo Period, recounting the earlier days of Miyamoto Musashi and what shaped him into becoming one of the greatest warriors in the world.

Furthermore, the anime seems to have revolved a lot around the CGI, which could be a positive aspect as long as it has good storytelling.

Onimusha Key Visuals

Prior to its release, Onimusha released two key visuals, although the first one was its poster featuring Miyamoto Musashi. You can see both key visuals below.

The first one features Miyamoto Musashi and how a part of it has become demonic (Oni) after being through hell. The CGI looks exceptionally good, though.

The second key visual, on the other hand, is more of an artwork Netflix used during the anime promotions. It shows a similar posture of Musashi holding onto his two swords and looking back from his village.

The anime series, based on Capcom’s video game, was initially announced during Netflix’s Tudum live event in September 2022, and it was made available for streaming on November 2, 2023.

Unlike other anime shows, which release episodes on a weekly basis, Onimusha has premiered all of its episodes on the first day since ONA (Original Net Animation) shows often follow this approach.
