Following the trailer release for Mortal Kombat 1, the latest installment in the beloved video game franchise, many are wondering what the story would be. It will feature Liu Kang becoming a Keeper of Time after fighting in the battle for Kronika’s Hourglass.
Along with that, it will also have him amassing a formidable army by drawing fighters from varied timelines as the series gets in a brand-new direction.

Mortal Kombat 1 Ending Explained
The final show-off in the game is between Liu Kang and Shang Tsung as they are present at the end of the game. To get his powers back and become a keeper of time forever, Liu tries everything as Shang Tsung secretly collects the power in a jade statue from Kung Lao. While Johnny Cage uses a drone to spy on Shang who is causing trouble with his army, he discovers evil versions of Sub Zero, Scorpion, Kenshi, Rain, and Ermac from different timelines.
On the other hand, Liu regains his powers and reunites with Titan Kitana and Kung Lao for help. With his own version of Kitana, Mileena, Reptile, Nitara, and Baraka, Shang Tsung tries to destroy Liu Kang’s hourglass, which could erase his timelines.
Following the events, Liu takes the battle to Shang’s timeline where they fight on a pyramid and players can choose from various characters to join the final battle.
As the battle comes to an end, in the mid-credit sequence, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, and General Shao are imprisoned as Liu Kang is seen leaving his teahouse knowing that Earth Realm is in good hands. In the aftermath of the battle, Jax is seen lying on the stairs with his metal arms torn off and Havik reaches for him and murders him.
