The inception of the reality series originated in America, airing on TLC. The basic premise of the show revolves around selected couples who had applied for or received K-1 visas.
What Is a K-1 visa?
- It is a special visa granted to the Fiancé of a citizen of the United States to enter the country.
- The primary condition for being validated for this visa is that the foreign citizen must marry his/her US citizen Fiancé within 90 days of setting foot in the country.
- The foreign citizen would eventually be eligible to become a lawful permanent resident, otherwise known as a Green card holder.
The show navigates the journey of these inter-nation couples who are supposed to get married within 90 days. However, the couples are faced with the harsh realities of cultural differences, possibilities of gold-digging tendencies, manipulation and gaslighting, superiority complex based on nationality, and more toxic traits in a relationship.
Due to its growing popularity, the UK released its own version of the 90-day Fiancé on July 24, 2022.

- Shane and Mert: Shane, 27, is a hairdresser from Devon. He met barber Mert (28) in Turnket last summer, and sparks began to fly in an unknown country. Their only hope is to get a visa to be together in the UK.
- Michael and Mercy: Micheal (37) is a father of two children. He met Mercy (28), who hails from Kenya, on a dating app in 2021. The show will navigate their wedding plans while exposing the family conflicts for suspecting Mercy’s intentions.
- Louise and Jose: Lousies (39) is a single mother from Gloucester. She met Jose, a rapper from Colombia, on social media in 2022. Both have mutual interests in starting a family together, but her 21-year-old son is suspicious of the new family member. Will the couple survive the family tensions?
- Robert and Assel: Robert (47) is a dad from Glasgow. He has been in a relationship with Assel (35) from Kazakhstan since 2021. However, there seem to be issues defining their relationship, as Assle has yet to admit her love for him.
- Tionne and David: Tionne is a 21-year-old self-proclaimed “princess” from Derby. She wants to live together with her partner David (24), who resides in the Dominican Republic. She wants to live an extravagant lifestyle, but there can be financial woes in their relationship.
- Rebekah and Christian: Rebekah is an eager 27-year-old from Chesterfield who has already booked her wedding. But her 29-year-old Fiancé, Christian, from Argentina, has an unusual personality. Let us see whether the couple is really compatible.
- Kadie and Alejandro: Kadie (27) hails from West Yorkshire, and her partner Alejandro (31) is from Mexico. The couple are just months away from their wedding day.
