“Triangle of Sadness” came out last year and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The director, Ruben Ostlund, did an amazing job with this being his first English-language movie. Plus, the cast was full of big names like Woody Harrelson, Vicki Berlin, Harris Dickinson, Charlie Dean, Dolly de Leon, Zlatko Buri, Henrik Dorsin, and Dolly de Leon.
Unfortunately, Charlie Dean passed away shortly after filming this movie, so it’s bittersweet to watch. The story follows a celebrity couple on a fancy cruise with some elitist passengers. It’s definitely worth a watch if you’re into satirical comedies!
What Happens at the End of the Triangle of Sadness?
While trekking, Yaya comes across a lift carved out of rocks which led to a luxurious resort on the island. She is excited to be saved and rushes to board the lift, but Abigail stops her. Abigail then suggests that they take a moment to appreciate the occasion together. When the lift doors opened, Abigail suggested that Yaya use the restroom before they continued their journey.
Yaya then decides to wait for Abigail while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Suddenly, Abigail appears behind Yaya with a large rock as if she is going to hit her. However, at that time, Yaya offers to help Abigail and asks her to be her assistant. This makes Abigail change her mind as she throws the rock aside.
Unfortunately, after this scene, we don’t get to see Abigail’s reaction in the movie. The scene quickly switches to Carl running through the forest in a hurry. He moves faster and faster, but the trees cut him up, and he screams in agony. The movie ends abruptly at this point.
Why Is the Guy Running at the End of Triangle of Sadness?
The film ends abruptly with Carl running in a firest, making viewers confused about the climax scene. Although the maker of the film, Ostlund himself, is unaware of the end, he had mentioned earlier keeping the end of the film incomplete so that the viewers fill in the gaps.
Many viewers even came up with their own interpretations of the iconic scene of Carl running in the forest. According to them, one interpretation means that Carl’s running at the end was used as a metaphor by Ostlund to depict the issues he faced with his gender identity throughout the film. At some point in the film, Carl feels like he has lost his male identity totally. His running in the forest signifies him trying to search for his lost male identity.
Another way it can be interpreted is that Carl is running to find Yaya, to finally reunite with her after his affair with Abigail. The scene could also signify that Carl realizes his mistake of having an affair with Abigail and hence is desperate to get back to Yaya.
Or maybe because Carl has been informed that the opening of the luxurious resort is on the other side of the forest, hence he is running to save himself and escape from the isolated island. Either way, there are several interpretations of the ending part of the movie.
What Was the Point of the Triangle of Sadness Movie?
The movie “Triangle of Sadness” is about a couple named Carl and Yaya who go on a fancy cruise with some other rich people. The film shows how there are different social classes on the ship, and things get really obvious when the boat has trouble with the weather and the pirates’ attack.
All of the passengers end up stuck on an island with no one to help them except for a housekeeper named Abigail, who takes charge. Abigail and Carl work together a lot, which creates some jealousy and competition between Abigail and Yaya.
But eventually, the power shifts, and someone else takes charge. Even though the movie has a deeper meaning, it’s also pretty funny in how it makes fun of different parts of society.
While “Triangle of Sadness” may not have fulfilled the high hopes set by the prologue, it still manages to expertly satirize its intended targets. This outstanding film takes a closer look at the unethical behavior of the incredibly wealthy.
What Is the Boat in Triangle of Sadness?
One of the survivors on the yacht, Abigail, also known as Dolly de Leon, soon joins the group. She came to shore in a lifeboat that was full of food and water. Paula initially tried to tell Abigail what to do, but it quickly became obvious that Abigail was the most resourceful person on the island. She was able to catch fish and start a fire to cook for everyone. Abigail informed the group that she was now in charge of keeping them all alive as the captain.
