The Apple TV+ series “For All Mankind” explores an alternate history where Russia outpaces America in the ’60s Space Race.
Now in its fourth season, the show may have the opportunity to achieve a significant milestone of its own – securing a fifth season. Also, in doing that, it could do something no other Apple TV+ show has done.
But can another season happen?
Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind” has not yet received an official renewal for its fifth season, as showrunners Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert stated in an interview with TV Line. Despite the uncertainty, there’s still time for Apple to grant another season, potentially allowing for a late 2025 release.
Has For All Mankind Been Renewed for Season 5?
The Apple TV+ series “For All Mankind” has garnered significant attention as it approaches the possibility of a fifth season, which could make it the first Apple show to achieve such a milestone.
Unlike previous years when renewals were announced while the current season was still airing, the situation for season 5 is a bit different. This is mainly because the delays caused by the 2023 strikes in the entertainment industry have disrupted the production timeline.
In November 2023, series co-creator Matt Wolpert expressed to Den of Geek the intention of having a total of seven seasons, stating, “That’s our goal.”
Co-creator Ronald D. Moore also confirmed discussions about a fifth season around the same time.
However, as of the latest update, Apple has not officially renewed “For All Mankind” for season 5. In an interview with TV Line, showrunners Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert confirmed this information.
TV Line inquired about the potential return of Joel Kinnaman’s character, Ed, for a fifth season, to which the showrunners responded cautiously. They said:
“At this point, we don’t want to say anything, honestly. Until a Season 5 [is ordered], until we’re able to sit in a room and really discuss what we want to do with a Season 5, we don’t like to commit to anything at this stage. So I would leave that open.”
Despite the uncertainty, there is still ample time for Apple to greenlight another season.
If a renewal is granted, a late 2025 release could be feasible based on the show’s typical production schedule, where each season launches approximately 15-16 months after the previous one.
It’s essential to acknowledge that the Hollywood strikes of 2023 have substantially impacted the development of “For All Mankind,” much like other projects throughout the entertainment industry.
Co-creator Ben Nedivi noted in an interview with Collider that the difference in the current situation is that the writers’ strike prevented them from starting work on season five’s storyline.
He also shockingly revealed something that had never happened before:
“I think this is the first time in the history of the show where the show is premiering without us really starting a room for season five. So, not only do we not have an official pick-up, we haven’t even started the room yet.”
As fans eagerly await news of a fifth season of “For All Mankind,” the show’s fate remains in the hands of Apple.
Nevertheless, the creators and fans alike are hopeful that the space-faring adventure will continue to push boundaries and captivate audiences for seasons to come.
For All Mankind is streaming on Apple TV+.
