From the minds of Guillermo del Toro and director Jorge Gutierrez, Book of Life was an entertaining animated movie that tries to teach children about a Mexican holiday called Day of the Dead.
The story revolved around a rich tapestry of vibrant colors and mesmerizing characters. The animated movie introduced a museum guide captivating a group of children with a tale about Manolo, voiced by Diego Luna, who is a young bullfighter in the Mexican town of San Angel.
As the movie was released in 2014, it had many A-List Hollywood celebrities who gave voice to the animated characters. The movie was well received by the audiences as it stands with a 7.3 IMDB rating as of writing. Its sequel, Book of Life 2, was also confirmed in 2017. However, the waters have remained murky post this confirmation, with limited updates on the movie’s progression.
When Will The Book of Life 2 Release?
Director Jorge R. Gutiérrez confirmed that he will be coming back to the world of the dead as the sequel to The Book of Life would be centered around Dia de los Muertos. However, there was no further update after he and animation house Reel FX confirmed in 2017.
Sadly, little has been heard about the follow-up project since this announcement, and there is no release date for the same.
Will Guillermo del Toro Return For The Book of Life 2?
During the initial confirmation of the sequel, it was revealed that Guillermo Del Toro will return as producer and also voice a new main antagonist named El Ferozv.
The Guillermo del Toro-produced animated musical sequel was said to be a continuation of the characters from the previous movie. He also clarified that The Book of Life 2 would have to wait under he’d completed his work on another, then unannounced project.
Why The Book of Life 2 Delayed?
Nearly a decade after the first movie, the second part is yet to reach the audience. “We’re just starting the process of developing,” said the executive associated with the movie. While the original movie was a stellar film and easily one of the biggest impacts on the world of animated films in ages, there is no update as to why The Book of Life 2 Delayed.
The movie reached the $100 million mark and took over the animated/comic culture, but animation movie lovers are awaiting the sequel.
