Controversial pro-wrestler CM Punk is one of the biggest names in the wrestling industry. While he is mostly known for his WWE days, he joined AEW and is now fired from the same.
Even in the past, he left WWE in 2014 and later joined AEW in 2021. After making a comeback nearly after 7 years in the wrestling arena, his fans around the globe were enthralled until the recent controversy broke out.
The announcement by All Elite Wrestling, aka AEW, of releasing Phillip Jack Brooks, better known by the ring name CM Punk, came after a reported backstage altercation between him and wrestler Jack Perry, Luke Perry’s son, at the pay-per-view event. While his time with AEW was initially a massive success, it all came crashing down to this moment as he was fired by Tony Khan from AEW.
Why Is CM Punk Fired?
Former WWE Champion CM Punk is currently the talk of the internet among the wrestling community for all the wrong reasons. He was fired by Tony Khan from AEW due to his reported actions during the All In event in Wembley Stadium in London backstage drama last Sunday.
CM Punk allegedly had a physical altercation with Jack Perry. As it is being said, Punk was the first to confront Perry when he arrived backstage, and later, the brawl began.
Why Tony Khan Felt Safety Was At Risk In CM Punk Altercation?
This incident gave a feeling that Tony Khan never had, as he has been going to wrestling shows for over 30 years. While addressing the live audiences, the AEW President announced that the company terminated its employment and wrestling agreements with CM Punk, who was once the golden boy for the company. His confrontation with the audience was booed as the show was held in Punk’s hometown, Chicago.
“Never, in all that time, have I ever felt — until last Sunday — that my security, my safety, my life was in danger at a wrestling show. I don’t think anybody should feel that way at work, I don’t think the people I work with should feel that way.”

He said that he has been producing the shows for nearly four years and added, “In all that time have I ever felt until last Sunday that my security, my safety, my life was in danger at a wrestling show.” Tony also said that Punk endangered the people backstage, including the staff and production crew of AEW.
“Phil played an important role within AEW and I thank him for his contributions. The termination of his AEW contracts with cause is ultimately my decision and mine alone,” added the AEW President, expressing remorse at the fact he had to make the announcement.
Will CM Punk Return To WWE?
It has been said that CM Punk might return to WWE after leaving the company in 2014. This has been rumored for a long time. However, Punk’s return to WWE seems a bit unlikely as controversies have always followed him. While his story during the exit from WWE is epic in its own way, it can be assumed that money heals all wounds, so never say never.
Considering his last stint with AEW, it would be interesting to see what will be next for ‘The Best In The World,’ aka CM Punk.
