It’s over! The hours-long nightmare of server maintenance and updating of Fortnite is finally over. But things aren’t quite in the clear yet.
I logged in to play the new update and explore the new Chapter 1 map, only to find myself in a long queue with a timer. Turns out many others are stuck in a similar situation like me. But why is there even a queue?
Fortnite players get a “waiting in queue” message with a timer when there’s a heavy load on the servers due to thousands trying to play the latest update. To fix this, try logging in again, avoid peak hours, and check the internet connection. If nothing works, contact Epic Games’ support staff.
Why Is There A Queue On Fortnite?
If the server maintenance message on Fortnite’s loading screen wasn’t annoying enough, now there’s a “waiting in queue” message with a timer.
Almost everyone who entered the game after Fortnite’s latest server maintenance procedure, the v27.00 update on November 3, 2023, for Chapter 4 Season 5, has experienced it.
This queue message is issued only when the system and server get overloaded because of millions of login queries. After all, servers can only manage a certain amount of load simultaneously.
So, the timer helps prevent a total crash of the servers. As a result, we all have to wait for the timer to count down before we can get in.
The anticipation of Chapter 4 Season 5 was so high that millions wanted to play it as soon as the server update was finished. But that created a logjam.
However, this isn’t unique to just this update. Almost every time there’s a latest patch or release, Fortnite players like us find themselves in this situation.
How To Overcome The Queue In Fortnite?
The only tried and tested method is to, sadly, wait for the timer to countdown and the server to let you in Fortnite. However, you can try logging out and logging in again after some time.
Players who have more patience can avoid peak hours, like the time immediately after an update gets completed. Also, waiting a few hours will allow the developer team to fix any lingering problems to ensure a smooth game operation.
Also, keep an eye on the internet connection. There have been times when I found myself with a slow network that made it nothing less than hell to get out of the queue.
If nothing is working and you are tired of sitting in front of your device, try checking Epic Game’s official Twitter/X handle for updates. You can contact their support staff as well if you are facing a specific problem, like having issues with your account that’s preventing you from accessing the game.
