In the statement given to PEOPLE, they mentioned that their journey is shifting and now have decided to call it quits. It was their different careers that they wanted to pursue. The joint statement read,
“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”

Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-lee are amicably ending their marriage as they released a statement. They did reveal the reason for parting ways, but a source told Page Six more about their fallout.
“It happened a while ago. Friends and family knew about it,” said the source, who theorized that the couple had problems between the two for a while, most likely when Hugh Jackman returned to Broadway in February 2022 for The Music Man.
“Deb wasn’t at rehearsals very much,” said the source, as Deborra “was even spotted snoozing during some of them.” There was no third person involved in the divorce, and they had simply turned into “roommates.” The close friends knew their divorce was only a matter of time, and fans were shocked when the couple announced their split with a joint statement.

After 27 years of marriage, the couple shared the devastating news of their split. While meeting on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli back in 1995, Deborra-Lee Furness was 40 years old, while Hugh Jackman was only 27 years old. They clearly had an age gap of 13 years, but that did not come in their way. She was a big name in the entertainment industry as she had an experience of around 2 decades, whereas Jackman was fresh off the acting school.
The Wolverine actor gushed about the moment and once shared how he met his former wife in a conversation with PEOPLE. He shared how it was his first job out of the drama school and was a massive break for him. Upon meeting for the first time, he had a crush on her as he shared, “This is the thing you do not do. It’s unprofessional and embarrassing.”
They soon began to date each other and got married on April 11, 1996, just 11 months after meeting. “Being married to you Deb is as natural as breathing. From nearly the moment we met,” said the actor while posting photos on their 25th wedding anniversary.
