Joshua Dobbs was diagnosed with alopecia, a rare form of hair disease that affects the scalp or sometimes the entire body, resulting in hair loss at a rapid rate. Apparently, he battled the disease since he was ten years old and completely shaved his head following his junior year in high school in 2013. Alopecia is the reason why Hobbs doesn’t have any eyebrows or hair on his head.

If you have been watching the NFL games for the past year, you may have become familiar with Josh Dobbs during his entrance on December 29, 2022, when he started as a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans.
Even in the recent matches with the Minnesota Vikings, he looks the same, with no hair on his scalp and eyebrows, and you may think it is some kind of a fashion the football star is following.
However, Josh Dobbs is apparently a victim of a rare hair disease known as alopecia, a common disease that affects about 2% of the world’s population, which is more than you think.
While there is no permanent cure for alopecia yet, those who are affected by it are treated to temporarily save their hair from falling, and in order to maintain it, frequent cortisone shots are necessary, according to experts.
It seems the Vikings quarterback faced the problem since he was just ten years old, as that is when he was affected by alopecia. In an interview with MedlinePlus Magazine, he described how this disease changed his life. In his words,
“I was first diagnosed when I was in third grade. One morning, I woke up with a small bald spot on my head. My dermatologist prescribed me a cream to apply to my scalp, and my hair grew back. But it got patchy again during my sophomore year in high school.”
“In college, I had to get cortisone shots on a weekly basis to help prevent hair loss, but they weren’t very effective for me. So, after the football season in my junior year, I shaved my head. My hair has stopped growing ever since, and I have been completely bald ever since.”
Joshua is also a leading advocate for helping many people with similar hair diseases and spreading awareness for those with low self-esteem, becoming an inspiration both on and off the field.
In fact, he met the former NBA star Charlie Villanueva, who has the same condition and mentioned in the interview that he was heavily inspired by his confidence.
“Keep in mind that all of your dreams can be accomplished irrespective of whether you have hair. Alopecia shouldn’t stand in your way.”
This is what Joshua has been believing throughout his career, and it seems to be working really well, as beauty doesn’t define one’s achievements alone, and hair doesn’t really play the most crucial part in one’s beauty.
