Why Did Snoop Dogg Quit Smoking? How Old Is Snoop Dogg Anyway?

Snoop Dogg may have been professionally known as a rapper and actor for phenomenal influence in both fields, but he’s also quite well-known for smoking marijuana all these years.

In fact, he has never been a person who appeared regretful for smoking and continued to entertain his fans without a speck of doubt. However, Snoop Dogg just announced he quit smoking.

So, why did Snoop Dogg quit smoking all of a sudden? Snoop Dogg, known originally as Calvin Broadus, is currently 52 years old and has decided to stop smoking marijuana after discussing with his family about his health. Since he has become a grandfather, he wants to live long enough to see his grandkids grow old.

Snoop Dogg Announces To Quit Smoking: What’s Happening?

Snoop Dogg, the famous rapper known for his albums Doggystyle, No Limit Top Dogg, and Ego Trippin’, was a cannabis smoker who used the habit as a trademark to sell his albums, and it was pretty influential in his career.

He initially wanted to give up smoking marijuana in 2002, but he couldn’t give up on the habit, and by 2013, the legendary rapper claimed to have smoked around 80 blunts of marijuana every day.

Furthermore, he has been medically treated since 2007 for his constant migraines caused by cannabis smoking, and after two decades, the rapper has finally announced once again that he will quit smoking for good.

On November 16, 2023, Snoop Dogg posted on his Instagram and X accounts, claiming that he would be giving up on smoking. Here’s what his post exactly says,

“After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time.”

While he didn’t reveal a particular reason, it is pretty apparent that he decided to prioritize health over pleasure, and he also had an interview with Daily Mail related to the issue a few months ago. He stated,

“After becoming a grandfather, I have changed in multiple ways. The main way is being concerned with how I live, move, and the people I’m associated with. I want to see my grandkids grow old. The only way I can do that is by taking precautionary steps regarding how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?”

It seems the rapper is finally taking a significant step toward personal health by quitting marijuana, which has ruined many people’s lives over the years, and given he is in his early fifties, it is a much-needed change.

That being said, addictions can be exceptionally challenging to overcome, even with rehabilitation centers, so it is still questionable whether he can quit smoking entirely.

But the world, along with us, is in support of Snoop Dogg, and even if he gives in once or twice, hopefully, he can overcome his addiction soon, with the help of professionals and his family members.

How Did Fans React to Snoop Dogg’s Sudden Announcement?

As somebody who has watched literal millions of people die from marijuana overdoses, this is a very brave act by you, Mr. Dogg. The pro marijuana establishment will criticize you but you must not relent!!

Even icons like Snoop Dogg show us that it's never too late to embrace change for personal growth.

Let his decision to give up smoking inspire us to evaluate and improve our own habits for better health and well-being.

Finally, weed is such a life ruining drug. Many have to deal with the consequences (mental health) for life.
