Why Did Kwon Eun-bi’s Recent Outfit on the Stage Spark Controversy?
Kwon Eun-bi, one of the most popular South Korean female singers, recently performed on-stage at the Korean National Police University on September 21st as part of their yearly festival.
While she wore normal clothes before the performance, once she removed the jacket and police hat, her impression left audiences wondering whether she was hypersexualizing her outfits by revealing a bit too much.
Due to her see-through tube top, both her chest and waistline were slightly revealed, following which netizens began bashing the Woolim Agency to protect the artist rather than sexualizing her appearance.
In fact, this is not the first time Kwon Eun-bi is met with controversy. In August 2023, she performed at the Cass Cool Festival, but fans found her outfits a bit revealing, leading to a debate among the fans. While some criticized her, some defended the singer.
However, some people still abused her through their opinions, to which Woolim Entertainment responded by issuing a statement. They said,
“Recently, we have found several posts on online communities and social media pages that are defamatory, sexually vulgar, and spread misinformation. We will continue to monitor and collect evidence of malicious posts to protect our artists to the best of our abilities. Moving forward, we will take legal action on all malicious content that we find. To this end, we ask fans to help us by emailing these posts to us.
How Did Fans React to Kwon Eun-bi’s Latest Controversy?
As usual, the opinions are divided, with some believing that Kwon Eun-bi shouldn’t wear revealing clothes for the sake of fans, while others claim that she is old enough to choose whatever she wants to wear.
While there aren’t many responses from individuals on X and Instagram, comment sections in Korean blogs are filled with endless debates.
The positive responses included something like how the idol’s outfit was something most idols would wear often and not the one that should be criticized. Furthermore, they also added that Kwon Eun-bi’s beauty makes her outfits far more charming than usual.
The negative responses are not worth talking about because they are mostly filled with abusive complaints, with a small part of it being towards Woolim Entertainment out of love for the idol.
In our opinion, the controversy was caused for no reason because the outfit wasn’t very revealing but rather suited her well, especially during the stage performance. But it can’t be said the same inside South Korea as they treat the idols differently from what foreigners perceive them.
