Have you ever sent a message on Instagram that you immediately regretted and wished you could take back? You’re not alone!

Fortunately, Instagram offers the option to unsend messages, which can be a lifesaver in certain situations. However, it’s important to note that unsending a message doesn’t guarantee that the recipient hasn’t already seen it.

But do not fret. We have listed below some steps you can follow to delete messages that you’ve sent on Instagram. With these options at your disposal, you can feel more confident and in control of your conversations on Instagram.

Why Can’t I Delete Messages on Instagram?

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you accidentally sent a message on Instagram and want to take it back, there’s a handy feature called “undo” that can help. However, if the person you sent the message to has blocked you, the feature won’t work, and you won’t be able to send any more messages to them.

To delete a message from both sides, you’ll need to use the “undo” feature. Keep in mind that you can only delete messages that you’ve sent, not ones that others have sent to you. If you want to delete a message that someone else has sent, you’ll need to ask them to do it.

To delete a message that you’ve sent, simply go to your Instagram direct messages, open the conversation with the message you want to delete and tap and hold the message. Then, select the “undo” option, and the message will be deleted from both ends.

It’s important to remember that there’s no time limit for using the “undo” feature, so you can delete a message even if it’s already been read. Once you’ve deleted a message, it’ll be like it was never sent in the first place.

It is important to note that if you happen to be using Instagram on a mobile device, you may not receive a notification if someone unsends a direct message.

However, if you’re using a computer, you will indeed receive a notification. It’s important to keep in mind that the recipient may have already seen the message before you unsent it. On the other hand, Instagram’s Vanish Mode is an option that will delete messages for both participants in a chat.

If you choose to activate or accept Vanish Mode, all messages exchanged in that mode will be deleted. It’s crucial to keep in mind that if it’s been more than 2 minutes, you won’t be able to unsend the message.

However, you can still edit a message you’ve sent within 15 minutes. Please remember that unsending only works if both you and the recipient are using iMessages on iOS 16 or later.
