After the break of the duo, Murphy went for a solo career, and due to her style and talent, she made her first successful solo album debut in 2005. The album was named Ruby Blue and received critical praise. Her second album with the name Overpower was launched in the year of 2007, collecting praise in the industry. But, after two hit albums, she went on 8 years of hiatus.

Roisin’s 3rd solo album Hairless Toys was nominated for the “Mercury Music Prize” in the year of 2015. This paved the road to success. The scandal caught fire after a user named @u/SkyrimSchmyrim shared a screenshot on her Reddit account of the singer and Joanna Cuddle. In that screenshot, it is noticeable that an account with the name Roisin Murphy shared her views over a snippet of a post shared by Joanna Cuddle. The post also contains a caption and a video that possibly triggered this type of reaction from the singer.
In the post, Joanna accused Murphy of making transphobic comments under a post about the ville transphobe Glinner. Joanna quoted Murphy’s comment on Glinner’s post “ You can’t hide from the truth, cause truth is all there is”. Even though the source is yet to be found, reactions are already surfacing on the internet. Many comments can be found under this Reddit post, showing their disappointment in the singer. A user said, “Please don’t call me a TERF!, Well if talks like a TERF, acts like a TERF…”
