To break into the hip-hop scene and make a name in the pool of great rappers is the penultimate milestone for a young aspiring MC.
Mdot is one such name that echoed great potential in recent years. But the rising star has met with an unfortunate end, bringing a wave of sadness to his fandom and the hip-hop industry.
What Happened to Mdot EBK?
The rapper and a friend/acquaintance were in the Fordham Heights area of New York on July 6. At around 2 am, late at night, a suspicious car was seen passing down Morris Avenue near East 182nd Street. Mdot EBK was shot in the drive-by shooting, while his 19-year-old friend was injured. A white car pulled up beside the two boys and fired multiple gunshots. He was brutally shot in his leg, bleeding profusely.
Unfortunately, Mdot succumbed to grave injuries from the gunshots and died on the street. He was only 18 years old; posing a question as to who would want to target such a young boy. His friend managed to escape the site but needed urgent medical attention. He was immediately admitted to the SBH Health System and is reportedly recovering stably.
According to the investigators, they suspect that this is a gang-related shooting. However, the investigation is still at a preliminary stage; there are no confirmed reports yet.
Who Is Mdot EBK?
Mdot EBK is an 18-year-old Bronx rapper and a member of the drill group 4Front Generals. The drill genre first originated in Chicago that blends the beats of the trap subgenre with the blunt style of gangsta rap.
Drill music generally refers to the plight of the black community in the hood and the violence they experience. Mdot EBK was a talented artist, respected by his peers for his bold depiction of life in the neighborhood.
From the hard-hitting lyrics to electrifying performances, there was no denying that the young rapper is true to his craft and authentic with his music. His claim to fame was the two major hits that put him on the map of the hip-hop scene– “Off the Mud” and “The Mud pt 2.”
Off the Mud part-2 is a powerful collaboration with his fellow rappers JB Slezee and Eddie Gzz. The song has managed to reach over 5 million views in just eight months. Mdot EBK was definitely on the rise to break into the mainstream music industry, inspiring several young upcoming rappers to keep pushing through.
Fans Pay Tribute To The Young Rapper
He always considered his fans as his true motivation and was active on his social media to share his work. He has amassed a significant following with over 15.8K followers on Instagram and over 14 subscribers on his Youtube channel. He recently shared a glimpse of his new track, and the fans poured in high praise for an absolute fire bop. But this ill-fated moment has the fandom mourning the death of the young rapper, gone too soon.
Just a couple of days back, another drive-by shooting took the life of an upcoming rapper, Casino Jizzle. These cases are a mirror of the part of our society where people hype the song but are not ready to face the harsh truth of these neighborhoods.
