The Trump indictment is like a five-season series, where every climax turns out to be weirder than the previous trial.
At first, Trump gossiped about Fani Willis having an affair with a former gang member.
Then, in more shenanigans, Trump was given a gag order because of his gossiping habit about a court clerk.
Meanwhile, Trump’s own entourage, the “elite strike force team,” has back-stabbed him and taken a plea deal in return for testifying against the ex-president.
After all the drama, the civil lawsuit of $250 million against Donald Trump took an even more chaotic turn when his attorney and the judge engaged in a heated argument.
On November 6, 2023, Alina Habba, Donald Trump’s attorney, addressed the press and TV cameras after the trials during the lunch break, stating that she was yelled at and told to sit down, accusing Judge Arthur Engoron in the New York State Supreme Court. She further said the judge was “unhinged” when he slammed the table.
Reportedly, Judge Engoron was discontent with Trump’s lengthy rambling when asked one-line questions.
Why Did Trump’s Attorney Alina Habba Slammed the Manhattan Judge?
The Manhattan Supreme Court went on a completely different tangent after a telenovela-like scene.
It all started with Mr. Donald Trump answering the questions during his $250 million lawsuit. The former president reportedly did not hold back when going to great lengths about menial experiences irrelevant to the trial.
At one point, Trump raves about his golf course in Aberdeen, Scotland, further boasting that it “may be the greatest golf course in the world.”
Even if you are not a judge, ain’t nobody wants to listen to a billionaire brag about his luxury expenses that he probably (allegedly) looted off the civil fraud. Weary of his antics, Judge Engoron interjected Trump and said he was not sitting there to listen to him all day.
To which 39-year-old Alina Habba quipped back, saying that as a judge, that was exactly what his duty was– to listen to what her client had to say.
AVERAGEBEING’s perspective: It seems like Trump threw the bait for the sharks to fight on and then sidelined himself.
After the heated interaction between the judiciary entities, Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, went outside to narrate her experience to the media during the lunch break. At first, she said,
“I was told to sit down today. I was yelled at and I’ve had a judge, who is unhinged, slamming a table. Let me be very clear: I don’t tolerate that in my life. I’m not going to tolerate it here,”
Then Ms. Habba ranted about how New York AG Leticia James, or as Trump calls her, the member of “The Fraud Squad,” was also corrupt along with Judge Engoron, making false lawsuits against her client. She said–
“Then why exactly am I being paid as an attorney and why exactly are taxpayers dollars being used in this court room. The answer is very clear. Because Ms. James… ‘wants to’ make a name for herself. She said this morning that the numbers don’t lie and it won’t lie in this case. Ms. James I have a message for you. The number didn’t lie when you ran for Governor and that’s why you dropped out. And the numbers don’t lie when President Trump runs for office in 2024 and those numbers are loud and clear. This country is falling apart and if we don’t stop corruption in court rooms, where attorneys are gagged. Where attorneys are not allowed to say what they need to say to protect their clients interest. It doesn’t matter what your politics are. Everyone has a right in this country to get up and put a defense.”
Reportedly, Judge Engoron expressed his regrets and apologized to Habba for yelling at her. Meanwhile, Trump’s team is taking another route by filing for a mistrial. However, not much is divulged about it yet.
And in a dramatic telenovela type of twist– Judge Engoron was the one who issued a gag order against Trump for making false allegations against his court clerk.
What is your verdict on this? Do you think Trump deliberately answered in lengthy statements to piss off the judge?
Do you think it was appropriate conduct for the judge to yell at teh attorney?
