Alex Bennett is known for frequently mentioning her husband on her Mean Girl podcast, so much so that people adored their relationship, but that was not the case for the past few months.
Not only did she post anything related to him since July 2023, but it appears she was divorced from her husband, whom everyone thought would be a life-long partner.
Alex Bennett apparently divorced her husband, Graham Bennett, the son of Oklahoma City Thunder’s chairman, Clay Bennett, because their marriage reached a breaking point when he wanted to move back to Oklahoma while Alex wanted to stay in New York. The couple split because they were not on the same page concerning life decisions.
Who Is Alex Bennett’s Husband, Graham Bennett?
Graham Bennett, before being introduced to many podcast listeners across the world, was the son of Clay Bennett, the chairman of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Apparently, Graham studied at the University of San Diego and got his master’s degree from the Harvard Extension School in 2023.
Currently, he works as the Manager of Development Initiatives at the REFORM Alliance and as an advisor at Thelma Gaylord Foundation. Graham married Alex Bennett in 2019 and moved to New York.
However, despite living a good life together for four years, they eventually split apart, leaving their fans saddened by the sudden news.
Why Did Alex Bennett Divorce Graham Bennett?
On November 7, 2023, Alex Bennett revealed her relationship status in her Mean Girl podcast, in which she titled the episode “Alex’s Relationship Status.”
She revealed that it had been five months since Graham left for Oklahoma, and they had been separated since. Reportedly, it all started with them moving to New York, where each pursued their respective careers.
In January, however, Graham wanted to move back to Oklahoma, and the couple didn’t see themselves on the same page anymore, as quoted by Alex on her podcast.
She also mentioned, “We never argued, we weren’t fighting, we weren’t mad, we weren’t yelling,” but in May 2023, the couple started having hard conversations, which eventually increased the distance between them. She further stated,
“Our hearts were going to be in different places. We very much knew what we were looking at. He was going to go back to Oklahoma, and I was going to stay here.”
As neither of them could sacrifice their careers, they had to let each other go for their best interests, and following her divorce, Alex reportedly felt shocked, but she also said that she felt relieved.
They didn’t sign a prenup prior to the marriage, so they were not obligated to split their finances; thus, they both shared a bank account.
Alex Bennett also wasn’t interested in her ex-husband’s money, but she did say that Graham promised her one-third of the money from their joint account, which his lawyer said she wouldn’t get.
Although she was frustrated with life going down all of a sudden, she claimed that she would never trade a single thing about her life since it taught her so many lessons, and her realization of being such a strong woman made her even more proud.
