The indictment of Trump and his associates has triggered a crazy chain of events. Trump supporters are not ready to see any reason and have resorted to violent threats and name-calling. The worst of which can be seen in the recent Abigail Jo Shry case.
Shry, who has been charged multiple times in the past year with two convictions and a month behind the bar, has pulled her wildest act yet. So let’s learn about this Texas native and what got her arrested for the umpteenth time.
Who Is Abigail Jo Shry?
Abigail Jo Shry is a 43-year-old resident of Alvin, Texas, who has been charged with misdemeanors four times in the past year. She is accused of threatening a judge and a Texas Democrat Representative. Shry was ordered to be jailed earlier this week by a judge, and according to court records, she is defended by the Houston public defender’s office. From her messages to the judge, she seems an extreme Trump supporter.
Shry has a prior criminal history, some of which she has pleaded guilty to. She was convicted of misdemeanor resisting arrest and criminal mischief in September 2022 and sentenced to a month of imprisonment.
In July 2023, she was also charged with a misdemeanor threat causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury. She allegedly committed her latest crime while she was on bond for her July incident.
According to the judge, Shry suffers from major depression and has a history of substance abuse. She lives with her boyfriend, who was charged with family assault against her. Shru’s father, Mark Shry, testified that she is a non-violent alcoholic who “sits on her couch daily watching the news” while drinking too much.
He reports that she often becomes agitated due to the news and starts calling people and threatening them. The father stated that Shry never leaves her residence and would thus never act on her threats.
Why Was Abigail Jo Shry Arrested?
On August 5, 2023, Abigail Jo Shry called the Washington DC federal courthouse and left a violent message for US district judge Tanya Chutkan. She also used a racial slur and threatened to kill her. The threats seemed to be made in light of the Trump indictment, where Chutkan was assigned to Trump’s case regarding Georgia’s 2020 election result scandal.
The threatening call was traced back to Shry, who admitted to making it. She began the call with “Hey, you stupid slave n—-r” which alone should be enough to clarify her intent. Shry went on a tirade that she would kill anyone who went against Trump or stopped him from getting elected, including the district judge.
Certain sentences from the call included: “You are in our sights; we want to kill you.” “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you, so tread lightly, bitch. You will be targeted personally, publicly, your family, all of it.”
During a follow-up conversation with the DHS, she confessed that she had no plans to travel to Washington DC, but if Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee came down to Austin, “then we need to worry.”
Why Did Abigail Jo Shry Target Chutkan?
Tanya Chutkan was nominated to the bench by former President Barack Obama and was assigned to Trump’s case after a grand jury voted to charge him with conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results. Trump publicly attacked Chutkan by calling her “highly partisan” and “very biased and unfair.” This could have spurred Trump’s followers like Abigail Jo Shry to take matters into their own hands.
On a Friday hearing, Chutkan imposed a protective order limiting the number of evidence handed over by prosecutors that Trump and his legal team could publicly disclose. She rebuked Trump’s lawyers that his defense team should be mounted in the courtroom and “not on the internet.”
