R. Kelly’s exposé was a monumental milestone for victims to get justice since the music industry is notorious for shielding the cash-grab stars so that their pockets remain healthy.
The traction of the #MeToo movement was like pest control, forcing all the vile vermins out of hiding. Jeffrey Epstein, Bill Cosby, and Kevin Spacey were among the massive names emerging out of some of the most heinous sexual assaults, often involving minors and late teens.
Even though a few names suffered the consequences years after their crimes, most names are still lurking in the shadows, backed by massive support from the industry.
From Hollywood to sports to the military– no place is a safe zone for women who are most susceptible to these acts of violence.
JD McDonagh, Jim Brown, Tyreek Hill, Kevin Porter, Dwight Howard, and a roster of most prominent athletes were accused of serial violent crimes against women, while most continue to thrive in their respective fields, free from any repercussions.
The recent revelations of Danny Masterson using power imbalance to assault helpless victims reveal how challenging it can be for them to come forward with their plight and expect justice from a broken system.
And now, the latest case is yet another test of “Believe all victims” or “victims of false accusations and extortion.”
On November 16, 2023, reports of famous rapper and businessman Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs being sued by Cassie for being involved in sexual and physical assault with her shocked the industry. Cassandra Ventura alleges that she was beaten, stomped, and kicked by the rapper while forced to have intercourse with male prostitutes and filmed. The couple began dating in 2007 and broke up in 2018.
Cassie And Diddy Relationship Timeline
Cassie, an ambitious, bright, and talented 19-year-old, had huge goals in front of her. She first met Sean Combs in 2005. Obviously, anybody would have been fan-struck in Diddy’s presence.
Diddy was a massive name in the hip-hop industry, rubbing shoulders with Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and more. The point is– Diddy was one of the hip-hop royalties and had the diabolical power to make or break someone’s career.
Two years later, Cassie was rumored to be in a relationship with 20 years senior Diddy. The couple soon received astronomical publicity and were often seen together as a power couple in massive events.
Cassie also ventured into her dreams of acting, singing, dancing, and modeling. Both were considered a power couple in the industry.
Cassie and Diddy proclaimed each other as their “ride or die,” as Diddy said about having children in a radio interview, “Whatever is supposed to happen in the future is going to happen, but that’s something that I want. I would only have it with my girl [Cassie], of course.”
However, just a few months later, in October 2018, Cassie’s rep announced, “They are indeed no longer together and haven’t been for months.” Cassie Ventura and Sean Diddy had officially broken up. But wait… there’s more tea to this– Did you know? Diddy was spotted with model Jocelyn Chew in Miami a month prior to the announcement.
Why Did Cassie File a Lawsuit Against Diddy?
Cassie Ventura moved on as well, and a year later, she announced her marriage to Alex Fine in January 2019. Diddy also sent his well wishes to Cassie on Instagram when she revealed she was expecting her first child in June 2019.
He captioned it– “Congratulations @Cassie and Alex. I wish you all nothing but love and happiness. God bless ❤️❤️❤️ L O V E.”
In hindsight, these words have quite a dark context after Cassie came forward with the allegation five years later.
Here are some of the serious allegations in the lawsuit–
- Cassie alleges that P.Diddy forced her to get into a relationship with him in 2007. He prohibited her from seeing any other man. She also stated that Diddy once threatened and attacked a man after he expressed his desire to get with Cassie romantically.
- The allegations get worse from here point on, as Cassie recalls the time when she was constantly beaten, stomped, and kicked by the rapper.
- And in even darker incidents, Cassie alleges that Diddy forced her to have intercourse with male prostitutes, and he filmed her without her consent.
Cassie finally opens up about her relationship with The New York Times, saying–
“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships.”
On the other hand, Diddy has vehemently denied all these allegations as his legal team puts together a statement–
“Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations. For the past six months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail.”
Diddy’s lawyer, Ben Brafman, further elaborated in the statement– “Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combs’s reputation and seeking a payday.”
