TikTok has set its sights on expanding user engagement with the introduction of a novel AI-powered chatbot named Tako. This innovative chatbot aims to interact with users, assisting them in discovering fresh and exciting content on the platform.

TikTok revealed that it has been conducting trials for this feature in the Philippines, where the chatbot is known as Tako.

Tako is a trusty sidekick on TikTok, fueled by a third-party chat assistant. Its mission? To be users content connoisseur, making the journey of discovering exciting and inspiring TikTok content an effortless and enjoyable experience.

Artificial intelligence-generated content has become increasingly prominent on TikTok, created both by users and the platform itself. From remarkably convincing fake Drake songs to clips of an AI-generated Taylor Swift delivering pep talks, viral AI content has garnered millions of views.

While Tako is primarily focused on content discovery and recommendations, other social media platforms have introduced chatbots that provide information and answer user inquiries, blurring the lines between human and AI interaction.

“Tako is an AI-powered tool to help with search and discovery on TikTok,” the company tweeted. “No current plans for this beyond these early tests, but we’re excited to hear your feedback!”

TikTok users were in for a mysterious surprise as they received notifications from the enigmatic TikTok Tako. These messages, which began appearing in users’ DMs, gave the impression of unread messages, leaving many baffled.

The notification included the name ‘TikTok Tako,’ accompanied by an intriguing blue ghost-like symbol with white eyes and the phrase “Just now.”

However, the intrigue deepened as users realized that these notifications were tantalizingly unreachable. Despite the appearance of messages in the DMs, interactions with the TikTok Tako chatbot remained elusive.

This perplexing phenomenon sparked a flurry of discussions on social media as users sought answers to the cryptic notifications.

However, it was revealed later that Tako sent notifications to TikTok users as part of an experimental feature or test. These notifications were designed to appear in users’ DMs, mimicking unread messages, in order to garner user attention and engage with the mysterious TikTok Tako.

While the exact purpose or intentions behind these notifications remain unclear, it is likely that TikTok was using this approach to generate interest, curiosity and potentially gather user feedback as part of their ongoing experiments with AI-powered chatbots like Tako.
