Logged into Fortnite and checked out the Item Shop, only to find it empty. This was what thousands experienced today.
Thankfully, it’s not a sole-user issue since it has been happening with everyone. But the question is- why did the Item Shop crumble so suddenly?
Fortnite Status, a Twitter/X account, sent an update on December 2, 2023, that the Item Shop is empty and they are trying to fix it. But they didn’t give any reason. Players think it’s due to overload since it’s the last day of getting Eminem Skin and attending his live Big Bang concert. Also, Winterfest beginning soon has probably added to the load.
Why Is the Fortnite Item Shop Empty?
Fortnite fans logged in to the game, went to the Item Shop, and found that it was literally empty. As expected, many tagged Fortnite’s support staff, and they tweeted on December 2, 2023:
“We’re resolving the issue with the empty Item Shop now, sorry for delay everyone. We’ll provide an update when we have more info.”
They gave an update with more details about the situation a little later. Epic staff informed the players that their purchases might not be completed. However, they won’t get charged for those failed purchases.
Moreover, due to the item shop glitch, many might get fluctuating offers in the meantime. But they didn’t give a reason for the sudden failure of the item shop. Yet, this isn’t the first time gamers have complained about this.
Fortnite players have said that the Item Shop has been glitching for about a month. Some fans think it’s because of the sudden influx of players here to get the Eminem Skins.
However, others are saying that the overload is also due to Eminem’s upcoming live Big Bang concert. This, combined with the incoming Winterfest that will be kicking off soon with the release of Chapter 5, could have added pressure on the Item Shop.
As a result, the Item Shop got nuked. While there’s something or the other that always needs to be fixed by the support staff, fans are running out of patience this time.
This is because it’s the last day one can use their V-Bucks to get new Eminem Skins. So, many might be upset if players miss out on this unique opportunity. On the FortniteBR subreddit, user Ingles_sin_Barreras explained this perfectly with an anecdote.
They said:
“Hopefully once the shop comes back people can buy the skins they want without issues. I remember a season or 2 of chapter 4, the shop had issues and wouldn’t let anyone purchase anything in the final day of the season. Lots of people missed out on last-minute skins or battle passes.”
Thankfully, many are reporting that the Item Shop is back and working for them. But others are still waiting to buy the skins, accessories.
