Disney+ series Ahsoka was one of the most anticipated Star Wars shows. After Rosario Dawson appeared as Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, fans wondered how her story would continue.
When the cast and character list were announced, fans were overjoyed because they would finally see some of their favorite characters in live-action. One of those characters is Sabine Wren, who was last seen in Star Wars Rebels.
Sabine Wren started as a Mandalore’s Imperial Academy member in Star Wars Rebels. She supported the Empire initially. But she changed her loyalty to the rebels when they began using her tech- the Arc Pulse Generator, against her people. Clan Wren disowned her, but Kannan Jarrus’ group- Ghost, took her in. Ultimately, she got the dark saber, freed her family, and vowed to save Ezra Bridger.
What Happened to Sabine Wren in Star Wars Rebels?
Before being portrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Sabrine Wren was voiced by Tiya Sircar in the Star Wars animated show Rebels. She is from the Clan Wren, a vassal of House Vizsla.
Sabine joined Mandalore’s Imperial Academy when she was a child. She believed the Empire was right and eventually became a top cadet there. However, she left it after they tested her invention, the Arc Pulse Generator, against her people- The Mandalorians.
It’s a super weapon that can plow through the Mandalorian beskar steel and its wearer. She then tried to damage the weapon and destroy the blueprints. But couldn’t do so successfully. Later, she defected from the Empire, but her family didn’t.
Clan Wren banished her and stayed loyal to the Empire, but their commitment didn’t get them far. The Empire forced them to answer for the crimes of Sabine, and her father was taken as hostage. Also, her brother was forced to join Saxon’s Imperial Super Commandos.
When Sabine defected, she didn’t have a family or a home to fall back on. So, she began working as a bounty hunter. Eventually, she joined the Ghost, a working Rebel cell called the Spectres. Kanan Jarrus recruited her, and it was captained by Hera Syndulla.
Ezra Bridger was a part of the gang, too. Her Mandalorian training, inventiveness with explosives, resourcefulness, calm focus, and improvisational skills made her an invaluable team member.
She is also the inspiration behind the iconic Rebel Alliance symbol. Even someone like Grand Admiral Thrawn admired her a lot. A huge chunk of Sabine’s character development came from the third and fourth seasons of the animated show.
Later in the show, she wields the dark saber to save her family but also realizes that it wasn’t for her and that Bo-Katan Kryze was the one who deserved it. Wren’s place was with the rebellion, fighting against the Empire with her groupmates even though Clan Wren had welcomed her back.
At the end of the show, Sabine met Ahsoka Tano. Up until this point, everyone had thought that she was still dead. When Ezra Bridger sacrificed himself to save his team and the rebellion, he got transported to another location.
But he was alive, and Sabine vowed to find Ezra no matter what. She and Ahsoka then took off in the latter’s ship in the end. When Star Wars: Rebels ended in 2018, out of all the characters, the most significant question mark was on Sabine Wren’s future.
When we see Sabine Wren in the Ahsoka show, she has cut her hair, put on armor, and is training with Ahsoka. She also seems more jaded than she was in Rebels. Her relationship with Ahsoka doesn’t seem good, and she also refuses to come to a ceremony honoring Ezra.
Wren is training with Ahsoka in lightsaber combat using the same saber that Ezra gave her in the season 4 finale of Rebels. However, her control of the Force is nothing to boast about. It now remains to be seen where the story takes her.
